It is that time again. Vote for Hudson drivers for the 2011 Induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The two drivers are:

Tim Flock, two-time Cup Series champion

Herb Thomas, first two-time Cup Series champion, in 1951 and '53

Go to:

Also, at the bottom of the page, just above the submit button you will need to type your e-mail address and then enter the safety/verification code words that appear to the right of their email address. Vote early, vote often. Actually, you can vote one day for Tim; next day for Herb. And so on until it's time to tabulate the votes.

Hey, we've shoved Hudsons into 1st place in the Drive of the Week, or whatever it was - we can do this.

And if you don't think it's important - look at it this way. How many of todays NASCAR's fan base have even heard of Tim Flock or Herb Thomas - most of them don't even know what a Hudson is!!!!!!!!

Up to us guys - get out the vote.

Done. You can actually vote for both at the same time.

(up to 5 votes per submission)

Actually you can vote for up to five drivers, so you can at least vote for Tim and Herb each day.

Do you think Tim and Herb will have a better chance if we only cast 2 vote for them and do not use the other 3 vote for any other candidates? Lee
  • I have no problem voting for Flock and Thomas. Both were very deserving drivers. Since you have five votes please consider David Pearson, Bobby Allison and Ned Jarrett. Thanks, Dave

One of the biggest drawbacks to this fan voting is the fact that it will be detrimental to the older racers. Consider that the large majority of fans today have virtually no name recognition of people like Ray Parks, Red Vogt, Red Byron, even Curtis Turner.

But it was these men who really got NASCAR started. Indeed, Ray Parks bankrolled Bill France in the early days. That's NASCAR's dirty little secret that it all started taking the moonshiners coin to keep the dream alive. That's one reason you don't hear to much about the "early" days, except in the case of, say, the Petty family. You hear a lot about Jr. Johnson's connection to moonshine, but only because he is such a big name.

In the early days of NASCAR there were, literally, two centers of action; Big Bill France down in Daytona and Ray Parks up in Dawsonville, GA, which at the time was considered the moonshine capital of the country. And Parks, Byron and Vogt were right in the middle of it all. Vogt, by the way, was the Smoky Yunick of his day - the things he could do with a Ford flat-head V-8 are still considered impossible. The man was a wizard with that engine. Again, I point out, a great book to read is Neal Thompson's Driving With The Devil - Southern Moonshine, Detroit Wheels and the Birth of NASCAR".

An excellent book and I think it's still available at amazon.com

But you don't hear much of these people - as I say the France dynasty has been very careful to bury it in the cellar somewhere. And then there's the likes of Curtis Turner. A great driver, maybe close - but he sure was colorful and there weren't many that could touch him on the track. But, again, who among today's fan base remember these old timers.

So that's why I say the voting is loaded against the ones who got this started in the first place.

  • I agree with Alex in regards or Mr. Parks. He was definately the main reason the Frances were financially succesfull in the early days. I mentioned three drivers that are very worthy canidates but Mr Parks is right with them.

By, the way, Ray Parks passed away recently. I suspect he's up there in NASCAR heaven giving Big Bill a hard time. LOL

I've been casting votes, each day, for Curtis Turner, Tim Flock, Red Byron, Ray Parks and Herb Thomas.

    Curtis Turner - wild, crazy, but a damn good driver, deserves to be remembered;

    Tim Flock and Herb Thomas - for their Hudson days;

Red Byron - first NASCAR champion, does not deserve to be forgotten'

Ray Parks - for his role in getting NASCAR off the ground so Tim, Herb and other Hudson drivers could do their thing.

Those are my reasons - I'm sticking to them.

I think as Forum Members we should collectively Vote for ONLY The HUDSON Drivers because of the reasons mentioned previously, but not that the others are not deserving too, because they definitely were certainly Star Drivers in later periods.

The fact is most people today do not recall the names of the very early pioneer Drivers, due to lack of early Media advertising, aging population, etc.

Additionally, fewer people remain anymore (cabable of voting on the computer) and/or even remember the Fabulous Hudson Hornets, so its really up to Us that do know about the Racing legacy and these two Hudson Drivers to get them elected!

(Dont worry, The other nominees will eventually get inducted by the large masses of fans that followed the Big Three Brand racing during later yrs). We cant be sure the new Hall of Fame will keep nominating Hudson Drivers if voter tabulation does not support their selection again. .....

(Personally I feel Ray Parks is already chosen like the two Frances were last election regardless of votes because of his financing big Bill France start and Ray's very long involvement with NASCAR).(Just my opinion, but Im going to vote them every day)

Thus, I shall soldier on alone thru rain, snow, fog and adversity - but we shall cast the mighty ballot for Turner, Flock, Thomas, Parks and Byron.

    And so goes life. :D

Every day..I vote...Tim and Herb. I'm old enough to have seen both drive and lucky enough to have had a personal conversation with Tim. Most Nascar Fans have no clue who these fellows were.
  • Don't forget to vote!

    FYI
Just as I suspected, no Hudson Driver was chosen for the NASCAR Hall Of Fame.... Maybe someday but not IN today's announcement....perhaps the Fabulous Hudson Hornet era was too long ago and only old Timers (older than me since I didnt see them either)can remember and many are not on the computer...

    FYI
You need to read the bottom of the Quate on this new Format...
No Hudson Driver was selected regardless of our voting just as I anticipated for the reasons mentioned above..,.. Maybe someday.....

At least with this group - David Pearson, Bobby Allison, Lee Petty, Ned Jarrett and Bud Moore - there certainly can't be the taint of politics!!! Every one of these five certainly deserve the nod, especially "Gentleman" Ned Jarrett. And Lee, like his son, has given much to the sport. As has Pearson, Allison and Moore.

I say congratulations to one and all.

Here's some 1951? Nascar Detroit race. Looks like it was Chryslers day to win
but Lee Petty #42 sure didn't have much left to take home...

Red Byron - The first NASCAR Champion 1949
    Buck Baker
    Darrel Waltrip

In small print it says: You may only submit votes ONCE PER HOUR with no more than five nominees per submission.

So if you can stay awake 24 hrs a day you get to vote 24 time a day?

Alot of good drivers to choose from. Wish I could vote for more.

Well when I tried to vote in the next hour it says: one vote per day limit.

    Good morning everyone.
I've been voting twice a day for a week and they say thank you for voting. I just voted my second time this morning and its l0:38am. So I'll see how many times I can vote and still get a thank you for voting. I'll vote about every 2 hours and see what happens. I've only been voting for Herb Thomas, Tim Flock, and Red Byron to give them a better chance of having more votes than anyone else. Even though many others are deserving also.

    Have a good day.
