Essex Super 6 speedometer cable

I have an Essex Super 6 build 1928 and it turned out that the speedometer cable is broken. Is there a chance to buy a new one or is it required to repair the old one?

I am currently working a '28 Essex streetrod. I may have the speedo cable left.. Can you send a pix to dlmarx@bellsouth.net. I have several cables and not sure which one it is. otherwise, you would probably just need the insert.

The usual cause of broken cables in this model is a bind in the speedo head. You need to check for this. Wind the input collar manually, and it should turn freely, without any binds. If it is sticky, it will need to be fixed, or you will just break the replacement cable. this si a fairly specialised job. I can do it for you, but postage back and forth will be around $40, so you may find a specialist locally. alternatively, I can supply a speedo on a swap basis. The job invioves dismantling the entire speedo, drilling out the centre spindle staking, removing the gear, reaming out the centre, and re-assemblng and re-staking the gear on the drum shaft. And it has to handled extremely carefully, as this is 82-year old pot metal which will break if you even let it look at a hammer!
