Mosquito Abatement

OK so I just fired up a 262 engine I got and installed in the Pacemaker you see in my pic. She seemed to idle high and smoked like a factory chimney....
I had one experience in the past where that happened after an engine swap. Me and my dad ran out into the street away from the car and smoke was everywhere but then after a few minutes the car settled down and engine was purring just fine and the smoke stopped and no one luckily called the fire department...
Do you think I should do the same thing? Let if smoke like a volcano and see if it settles down? Advice? Expereinces? Lemme hear em ? Thank you.

If your oil level is ok and she isn't knocking or making noises I would let it run. Also if you can add some Seafoam to the gas and oil to clean and get things loose again. Watch that she doesn't over heat and let her run a bit.
Is it new oil in the engine?0 -
Yeah oil looks pretty clear to me. not all black or anything. Not knocking either.0

I suggest changing oil before running it much at all, just for peace of mind. If engine has sat for any length of time, contaminents and additive package will drop out of the oil. May look clean, but will have sludge at the bottom of pan. If you don't know recent history of engine, I'd change oil. Also, oil pickup may be somewhat submerged in sludge. after dropping oil. stick a coat hanger wire into the pan and see if you can rake anything out. As suggested, use a product as mentioned to help clean oiling system. Oil pump is the heart and oil is the life blood.
Hope this helps,

walt's garage-53 wrote:Did the engine turn over easy? If yes, then they put a lot of oil into the cylinders to keep it from freezing up. It should clear itself up after it runs a while. Walt.
UPDATE: Yeah that's exactly what was done it turns out.... ran it for a while it smoked a lot then it disspated.... still smokes a little bit but maybe once I get it on the road that will clear up too0 -
