308 distributor

I'm hoping someone can tell me the difference. I have a IAT-4009B distributor for my 308 whch is a 53-54 Hornet. It is a little loose and I'm thinking of getting it rebuilt. I recieved another distributor in the mail today that I purchased on e-bay that is an IAT-4009 (51-52 Pacemaker or 53-54 Wasp) that is very tight. Can anyone tell me the difference in these two units? The shaft length is the same and outwardly they look alike.

Thanks

Jeff

    Jeff,

I believe that the difference is the springs and weights for advance.

That's what I was told, as well, Jeff.
  • Thanks for the answer. Sounds reasonable. Do you guys know a good rebuilder for the distributor and where I might get a correct functioning vacumn advance. Is there a way to test a vacumn advance at home??? Could I possibly change the spring a weight assembly from my hornet to the pacemaker distributor?? Technical questions but fun to work on.
  • Randy Maas rebuilds them and could rebuild it any way you like.

Even possible to change it to electronic ignition, if you so desire.
