Forum Change Coming Soon!
Hello all,
I would like to start by thanking all of our members that use the ClassicCar.com forums. Now the vinegar, we will be changing the format of the Forums in the very near future.
The life of this platform is at an end and we are no longer able to get security updates for this version and the newest version of this software is not something we care to invest our time in and its a complete divergence from the forum style used here for so long.
So, change is evitable, but we will do our best to make the change as easy as we can. So that you will understand the goals, we have outlined them in the order of importance.
1) Retain User Name & Login Database. (Will require password update)
2) Retain Posts & Threads (Will loose photos & attachments)
3) Full integration into the ClassicCar.com website, no longer standalone software.
4) Easier to use interface. (Easier does not mean the same, there will be a learning curve)
5) Faster loading (We hope)
On the downside:
1) Temporary period of adjustment for both staff and users
2) Loss of user private messages (Better back them up soon)
3) Reduced features (Nothing dramatic, but we cannot get a 100% crossover)
We see this change as a positive step toward providing the best services and at the same time adding better security to the site using an integrated platform.
We hope we will have your support and help in getting the new system up and running very soon now. Backup your private messages and anything else you want to keep safe. We are confident that Posts will be available as far back as they go now. If not, we will leave the old posts online as a library.
Best Regards,
ClassicCar.com

Guess we do what we did before - back up anything we can, including photo's, then when the change is up and running start over again.

Ted - is that attached images only?
Photos linked offsite should be fine, right?0 -
Hi! I am a new member since a couple of days. Don't know if it's ok to present myself here. But I just want to say that I will do my best to help. Since my first langage is french ( I am from the Quebec region in Canada) I might write some funny sentences sometimes but, I excuse myself in advance.
Just want to say that since a few days I am reading a lot of the discussions here and I must say that I have great admiration for you guys who are here day after day answering questions and helping others. Since I am not a pro in computers and that I have already some difficulties to put my pictures etc, I might wait a little before I put more. I will take the time to talk a little bit of myself and tell you the origin of my passion for Hudsons.

Welcome to the Hudson Forum Michel. You have a good grasp of the english language. I look forward to anything you have to add.
Perhaps you will share some information about your dads Hudson and your Hudson.
Have a good day. Lee0 -
All well and good that the change is necessary if higher security is deemed to be important etc, but a couple of things worth mentioning:
1. It would be very good to have this current website archived, as it would be a crying shame for all those great historic photos attached to hundreds of posts to be lost. These photos are a valuable resource that must not be lost in cyber-space. We need an assurance as to how this is going to be treated.
2. We need a date by which we need to save any messages etc that won't be transferred across to the new system. Also how are these saved easily without having to do them one by one?0 -
Regarding the saving of PM's: I discovered a very simple way to do this (it's built in to the system here) a long time ago. You only have a limit of 50 messages so you have to save them or clear out the system, anyway.
If anyone is interested, I can explain the method here.0 -
All of the pictures I have posted are linked to my Photobucket account so
I'm hoping these will stay.0 -

You might explain it Jon - I haven't figured it out yet. But then I haven't figured a lot of things out yet.

Darn just about the time I had it figured out..0

Alex:
1. Open your private messages page (link is at upper right corner of your page, "PRIVATE MESSAGES" in red, just beneath where you're welcomed to the page: "Welcome, A.E. Barit").
2. Now then, there's a black horizontal band entitled PRIVATE MESSAGES IN FOLDER, with a "down arrow" next to it, and a check box. The list will either show the INBOX or SENT ITEMS (it doesn't tell you which). Click the box at right, which checks off all the messages in this list. Then click the down arrow.
3. This opens the other box (INBOX or SENT ITEMS). Again, click the box at right. Now you will have checked off all the messages in this list as well.
4. At the bottom of the list is another horizontal black band with a selector box. Click the down arrow and select DOWNLOAD AS TEXT. Then press GO just to the right of it.
5. A dialog box should open, giving you the choice to simply open up the text file (which will now have all of your accumulated PM's on it) or to save that file. I always select OPEN WITH NOTEPAD because I never know where my computer stores its downloaded files!
6. You can now either COPY / PASTE the contents of the file, or SAVE it to wherever you like. In my case, I have two huge lists in my computer -- one is the INBOX and one is the SENT ITEMS. Every time I clean out my PM's I add the latest batch to the end of the appropriate list of PM's in my computer.
7. Once you're sure that you've copied all the PM's from the Classiccar site you can delete them (to make room for new ones). Leave all the boxes "checked" but this time, at the bottom, select DELETE in the little window (instead of DOWNLOAD AS TEXT) and then click GO.
This might take a few minutes the first time around but it will go faster the next time, and it's the only way I know to save all your messages.

Awww man! I too hope this doesn't change too much. If we lose the pictures that would suck. Some times I'll search a subjuct that I haven't seen before and see a picture in a post that I didn't know existed. What a shame if the pictures get lost.0 -
It is happening now, I can't find this site from the new home page, I had to come in here from an e-mail link. I'm not sure how long this part of the forum will last but I know I'm lost in the new format0
