308 water tube modifications

So, I have my water tube out of the '52. Luckily it's already been replaced with a 55-56 unit. But I've been thinking about modifications to improve it's function. I've read Rudy Bennett's write-up on adding the extra cooling line, which I'll probably tackle later on, but I also think improvements can be made to the tube itself. I have access to computer flow calculation software and have played around with modeling the tube, however, I'm not yet real familiar with the big six's cooling quirks.

So, to give me a little direction, where are the issues with the coolant flow, that you guys who know, that could possibly be improved through the tube? From Rudy's write-up, I take it that the slots on top the tube feed the cylinder head passages and might not be adequate, can those be enlarged on the tube itself or do they more or less match the openings to the head? Other than the slots, do the valve side holes feed the cylinder head? I just have the tube out, haven't pulled the head off.

Thanks Fellas.

Okay, now I remember reading that thread. Rudy has a few sentences mentioning gunk building up in the core plug side of the engine, and the tube holes being inadequate to feed through the head to that side. Can anyone provide the # of holes and dimensions for a earlier tube, so I can compare the two? I might not really get anywhere with all this, but I'm curious about the tube flow.
