My '53 Hornet is running cooler

I installed Walt's thermostat plate modification kit in my '53 twin-H. I only have the stock temperature gauge, but it's lowered the temp by at least a bar under normal (summer 80-90 degree average) driving. Before, when I was stuck in traffic I could get readings well above the mid-point of the temp gauge, and now I have yet to see the temp go above the mid-point even once. In average driving, the indicator now sits on the bar below mid-point. A tip of my hat to Walt for this fix - thanks, Walt!

My 262 has been overheating (when the stupid starter works) quite a bit. What is Walt's thermostat plate modification kit? Will it fit the 262 as well as the 308?

Walt here; It works on all Hudson engines from 1948 to 1954. Have to remember, the radiator has to be in good condition to carry the extra water that my kit sends to the radiator.

    Walt,

Sorry for a seemingly stupid question, but when you say all do you mean the 8's as well?

How much to include postage and do I send it to the address in the roster?

    Thanks.

Don't forget the 4 ounces of SOLUBLE OIL, to help the water pump and the radiator core. walt

    Walt,

I just mailed you a check for the thermostat modifying kit for my '49 Super Six.

I want to congratulate you for receiving the "Doc Daugherty Award". It was well deserved.

Soluble oil is used by all machine shops in their water equipment. Prevents rust and lubricates all moving parts as well as the parts that are being machined. Used in our engines, it's a rust fighter and saves the water pump. The pump on my engine has 132,000 miles and still no leaks or problems. All it takes is 4 ounces, every 2 years. Sold at all auto stores, just ask for it by name. Walt.
