Some time ago someone explainde how they converted their brake master cylinder from a single to a twin reservior system. I think that they had used a ford master cylinder kit for the doner? Any one remember this--I have not been able to find the post....

  • I also remember the thread and did the conversion on my 47 Commodore. The master cylinder I used was from a Torino with non power brakes. Not a difficult conversion and works well. Wish I could help you on finding the thread but it was over a year ago. I can send pictures if they will help.

    FYI

I Posted that Master Cyl Info a few yrs ago and it still works flawlessly in my Truck.... (Only drawback(If want to call a drawback is adding fluid is tricky, but never had to add yet, but buying a 'remote Fill' for a few bucks would simplify) To find Thread type in SEARCH dual master cylinder for '30's '40's Hudson (Safety upgrade)/U] and should appear. It retains the whole original secondary Emergency System and was simple upgrade using scrap piece 1/4" steel and few taper allen head bolts....

Glad someone else did the install..

If cant find look in 'Members List' then browse my Posts for detail, part number, and pictures. If that fails let me know and I can walk you through it

You will find it if you get into page 20 in the Hudson Rods sub-section. The search works but when trying to get into the relevant post, I came up against:

  • Is there a master cylinder with twin reservior that will fit a stepdown?

    FYI

My Dual Master Cyl Post is located on St Rod Search by typing Dual Master Cyl adapted to '37 - '47. I found it at the above address before I posted but when guys couldnt find it I looked for it elsewhere and its on this address...

Regarding dual cyl for Stepdown, I didnt do one but believe I read about a conversion done in a St Rod Mag.

I recently added a dual circuit system to my '59 Jaguar Saloon after losing ALL brakes due to a broken brake line fitting. The Jag setup is very similar to other cars of this vintage, including the Hudson, with master cylinder mounted on the frame under the floorboard.

I used a Wilwood Combination "Remote" Tandem Master Cylinder, item 260-7563...about $125-130 allowed me to mount both brake fluid reservoirs on the firewall. Be sure and measure the length of brake fluid hose needed for the remote... the length that came with the kit was way too short, and brake fluid compatible hose is very hard to come by locally.

An alternative, if you can find room under the floor would be model 260-4893 which has the reservoirs mounted right on the master cylinder.

One source for good prices is www.jegs.com

You'll need to fabricate a suitable bracket to mount the master to the frame. I welded a 90 degree bracket from 1/4" steel.
