Fuel pressure regulator question

I'm going with the Airtex solenoid type fuel pump. Now, is there a preferred fuel pressure regulator? There is a Mr. Gasket $25 unit on the car now but I've read or heard these are junk and DO NOT regulate the pressure effectively.
Thanks for your help.

If that's the one with a adj knob about as big as the unit, it seems to adjust OK, but my old one just decided to exhibit diaphram failure and drip onto the exhaust manifold. 12+ yr life, MBTE may have done it in. While looking for a replacement, I came across a 2002 recall bulletin that prompted NAPA to drop it from their product line. I'm going back in with a Holley 12-804, has two outlets (one for a gage?) and is less than $30 on Amazon.
Good Luck

I agree with Jon. I did a lot of research and then bought the Holly 12-804 too!

Jim, if you instal a temporary or purmanent fuel pressure gage between the carb and pressure regulator you will know what the fuel pressure is and regulate accordingly.
You will then know if the regulator is good or bad. I would not assume something is bad just because someone said they are junk. Not everyone have the same experience with a product.

The guys are correct. I placed one below the passenger footwell between the elec pump and the mech pump, a massive leak occured after a couple of years. Go to amazon.com, search for fuel pressure regulator and read the comments. In addition the dial type can't be sold outside the US( so says one comment). Before you even buy a regulator, see if you will need one. I run a airtex( or ac delco) solenoid style as the only fuel pump direct to the twin H carbs. The pump says 5-8 psi, but at the carb inlet my pressure gauge reads only 4.8psi at idle and also with the engine totaly off. Of course it will lower on reving up the engine, drop to 5psi for a sec then level at 4.8. That should be fine, unless someone differs. Holley states needle won't come off the seat below 7psi, I have not had any flooding so far. Give it a try. Holley 804 and 803 are fine. One is for 1-4psi & one is for 4.5-9. $27.95 at Summit.0
