I have a 1931 Essex and not sure how to remove the rear drums. Do you have to remove the center nut and carter pin?

Please help Thanks George

You need a hub puller. See this post for details. This is for later brakes, but should show you what is needed.

The type of puller you need is a large steel hub which screws on to the hub-cap thread, with a large bolt through the centre which bears against the end of the axle and pops it off the taper. If the car is mobile, loosen off the axle nut and drive it round the block a few times and it will usually come off .
