WA-1 Float Valve

Good Morning Guys,

Just rebuilt the WA-1 carbs on my Twin H and the float valves supplied in the kits are leaking badly. The needles in the kits were of a flat neoprene design and are not closing properly. Wondering if you can help me with a solution for this issue.

No, in this case not Walt, but Bill Craig. He makes a replacement ball-type check valve that absolutely stops this common problem with the Twin-H WA-1s. Been running them in my Hornet for some time now with nary an overflow. Several other satified users here on the forum. Park, other than replacing the viton tip float valve, is there any thing else needed to properly install these float valves, such as adjusting the level? I presume that these valves are similar to the Gross Jet valves in Fords.

If you have the needle and seat that has the small neoprene insert, I can tell you why they leak. You tried to set the float level by bending the float against the needle seat. To set float level, you must remove and bend tab with the correct tool. You may also damage float and it's leaking with gas inside. All WA-! carbs are set at 1/2 inch, cover surface to upper seam on float, also make sure you install the seat good and tight or gas will leak here. I use this type needle and seat and have built hundreds and shipped all over the world and have never had a complaint. Walt.

Ron, the Craig valve assembly includes a new brass "housing" for the ball valve. So it's installed the same as changing out a regular needle and seat set. Of course it's prudent to check the float setting after the new valve is installed.

Well, I got a kit from a reliable source and the little wire thingie that is supposed to pull the needle valve open when the float drops was actually preventing the needle valve from closing. Had to leave it out and it works fine.

The thing you called THINGIE was used in the early days for the solid needle. Not used on any needle and seat assembly today. Walt.
