Is there a period-correct voltage regulator available today? For example, one branded Auto-Lite? Short of that, what is the recommended voltage regulator for a 1946 8-cylinder?

Thanks,

  • It takes a VRR 4001A Autolite ,Hudson # 301484. That would be the simplest.
There are still some New Old Stock ones around.

  • Walt here; There were 5 generators used from 42 to 47, 6 or 8 cylinder cars. Here is the list, generator and the correct voltage regulator. GDS-4801A-VRR-4001A--GEA-4803B-VRP-4008B--GEB-4802B-2-VRP-4008D--GEC-4801A-VRR-4001A--GEG-4801A-VRP-4008A Some numbers are the same but check the letters good and you will see they are different.
  • I'm sorry - I looked at your post and sow the "8" and my brain saw "48".
My book was right my eye's are a little out of calibration,
