Hornet - Factory Carpet Configuration
I'm getting new carpeting in "Doc" this week ('51 Hornet Club Coupe). Already picked out the carpet style and binding, but still pondering over the exact design (it will be custom sewn at a local upholsterer).
Can anyone enlighten me as to the exact configuration from the factory to accommodate access to the brake master fluid and auto tranny? Were there circles cut into the carpeting, or did the whole section lift up or?
And, yes, I DO know there are a few suppliers of ready-made Hornet carpet sets! I wanted to be able to dictate the exact material and design.

As far as I know, the carpets just lifted up. I always thought it would be prudent to sew in an edge-binded lift flap to access said Master Cylinder. A floor mat goes a long way into hiding the flap, if necessary.0 -
Yes, I had a '53 Hornet sedan at one time. As Russell says you have to lift the carpet to get access to the master cylinder.
Way I found out about it was I wanted to check the master cylinder and couldn't for the life of me figure how to get to it. Stopped by a garage on my way home one night and an old time mechanic, with a little chuckle, folded the carpet back to show me.

On my 54 Hornet Hollywood there is a round black rubber cap with 2 screws that covers the hole used for checking tranny. It seems to look and work like it came from the factory but I am not sure.0

I have one of those rubber covered accesplates on My coupe that uses a Borg-Warner trans. but my Hornet Special with the Hydrouses the metal plate for the same purpose either would be considered original. Also has a metal plate over the brake Mastercylinder
