Other places for a vehicle number

On a '37 Terraplane, where would a stamped VIN be??? A guy emailed me, asking this question because he is having difficulty with Illinois vehicle nazis concerning an out-of-state '37 he brought in. The door post vehicle number is missing, but he has what is supposed to be the title for that car. I sold my '37, and I do not remember where the number on a '37 is stamped on the frame...Seemed to me, there is a number on the outside of the frame, behind the right front wheel. Also, I do not remember if the vehicle number is also stamped on the block, like the Stepdown cars are.

Anyone know for sure if this info is correct? And if so, can you provide a picture of where this info does appear on either the frame or the block?

Thanks in advance! --- Patrick

Patrick, if '37 is same as '36 (which I believe it is), there should be a number on the top surface of the RH main frame rail, roughly just below the "under the hood" face of the firewall. I think there's a firewall to frame brace that fastens to the frame right there, and the number is just forward of that brace. Also on the rear axle housing, looking from the rear, the number is on the right side of the housing, about midway between the RH spring and the center of the differential housing. It's a little above the horizontal centerline of the housing.

On my '36T the VIN is in the places that Park mentioned and it is also stamped into the very back rail of the frame, facing out toward the back, only visible if you remove the small apron piece below the truck. Mine also has it stamped into the front axle on the passenger side. Also the vehicle ID plate is attached to the firewall in the engine compartment in front of the driver. Good luck.

Patrick, here are three pictures of serial number on my '38. You will probably have to do some cleaning before they are visible. Dave

Uh, wasn't the ID plate on the '37's riveted to the firewall under the hood on the passengers side???

Or did they move to the door post by 1937.

Thanks for the help, guys! I fowarded this link to the guy that asked me the questions, and he was able to find the number stamped on the top passenger side of the framerail, in front of the cowl. Thanks again!

Alex, the vehicle number is on the passenger side "A"-pillar post in 1937. Nothing on the firewall
