The valve lifters are the only interchangeable parts between the bigger motors and the 202 Jet. Probably the head of the bolt is recessed, which is why you cannot adjust them to be quiet. The feeler gauge measures the unworn portion of the head. The valve stem pounds it's way into the bolt head. This can be refaced quite easily. The earlier splasher engines had a better design bolt in that there was a raised portion above the hexagon which was the same diameter as the valve stem.0
