Last night my son Rick and I got the engine out of the Toyota PU bed and onto engine stand to check #'s and clean to repaint. That succor is heavy. Had to stand on cherry picker to lift engine.

Some ID# I found
Engine # 198936
Front carb 2118S or 2113S tag not real clear
Rear carb 968S
Intake casting S07093
Head 232
Generator GD7 6001B 11F or GDZ?
Distributor 1AT 4009A 10F
The Chokes on both carbs are cable operated. Is that right?

Have not decided its use yet. Either into the 47 PU or switch engines in the 52 Hornet.

Wife wants later drive train in PU. My son suggested latter drive train in 52 Hornet and Twin-H in PU. Decisions Decisions.

  • That should be a 1952 engine. Could be a 262 or a 308. Under the distributor the length of the block should have a half moon build out, Hornet, no build out 262. 51 to 53 twins, take 968s carbs. 1954 takes 2113s carbs, but either can be used as a pair on 51 to 54. No hand choke on these model carbs, somebody MICKEY MOUSE them. Lee, you have your hands full here, decisions decisions. Walt.

    Thanks Walt.

I'll check out that half moon you mentioned. Is there anything else I should look for? Also, it looks like it had been painted gold over red and the vin # barely visable. The numbers were struck very lightly (dificult to read), not like on my 54 engine which is very legible.

There is a threaded hole by the coil I was told the threads in the block are cross threaded. What tap would be needed to clean up the threads and what is supposed to screw into the whole?

There is a hole in the rear valve cover on Twin H engine. When I looked at the same cover on my 54 engine there is a draft toob there that is not on the Twin H engine.

It looks like there are some issues with this engine to correct.

Is it ok to run with the 232 head? He said it ran very good.

What carb should I get to make a matched pair?

    Thanks again.

I checked the engine and there is a rib under the distributor the length of the engine just like you said. I'm glad to know it is a 308 engine. I was told it only has 4 hours on it since being rebuilt. But it has been setting for many years.

From previous post on the forum, it seem to be a good idea to replace the 232 head with something else. Too much compression and hard for 6V starter to crank engine.

What would be your recommendation for a head?

Another question, is there suppose to be some kind of baffle at the draft toob to keep any oil from comeing out of the valve lifter cover? I ask because there is no draft toob on this engine. I used to have a early sb Chevy that had a baffle ahead of the draft toob.

    Thanks for your help.
