Great Time in the Desert

There is no better way to appreciate the serenity and stark beauty of the Mojave Desert or to enjoy the company of other Hudson fans than to participate in the Laughlin Economy Run. Thanks to Jayson Fisher who loaned us a ’51 Hornet to Val Smith who rescued us on the way back to LA and the friendly HET members who converged at the Avi Resort and Casino, we had a great time.

Thanks for the pictures. Sorry to see the problem after having such a good time.
Hope it wasn't anything serious. Val is one of a kind. Always willing to help. It was good of Jason to loan you the car. It's much more enjoyable to experience this event driving a Hudson. This was my 4th year and my first in a Hudson. It's always been fun but even better in the Hudson.
See you next year.

Bill,
It was great to see you there. We have always had a good time at Laughlin. Been going for a number of years (cannot remember how long)and most often a small group of us drive down from Northern Utah. I flew solo this year and I have to admit I miss the "team" meetings and ribbings that go with each stop and sometimes often photo moments.
I thought with the first photo being the Hudson Truck (truck belonged to a friend here in Northern Utah that has since passed away)that it might have stopped. Not that I was happy to see the "vert" being loaded up but there was some comfort to see the truck was not "broken." Here is a photo of the cars that Jason brought--and naturally parked alongside my stepdown.
By the way, if you thought that Laughlin was fun, better make your reservations for the Western Regional now! It will be a "BLAST."

The '51 ran fine until I pushed it to highway speeds when the distributor began to malfunction. I probably could have driven back to LA at the speed of a Turtle as we did going from Baker City to Laughlin without difficulty. However, I had kind of lost my enthusiasm for traveling another 150 miles at 28 to 32 mph.
Curious as to how many brave souls stayed in one of Baker City's two motels. After reading reviews and looking them over from the outside  I suggested to our crew that it might be better to sleep in a dumpster or under a bridge. Being somewhat timid we spent the night in Fontana.
