FYI

Rudy Bennett & Chuck Fellows sent me a 'preview picture' of their new Aluminum Dual 2bbl Intake Manifold to Post. Please keep in mind that this is a 'very early Stage picture' from Empire Motors Pattern Maker's Shop today.

The New Intake will have the following.....
-Equalizer Tube in-between the two pieces
-Equal length Fins to match their new Aluminum Cyl Head
-Fins on runner floors to enhance Air Fuel mixture
-HUDSON embossed on the Top
-Carburator choices will be Hudson 2bbls, large Rochester 2bbls, or 318 Mopar Carter 2bbls

(Rudy credits Chuck Fellows for the Intake design)

  • Nice looking and great to have an option with carbs. Any ideas how the linkage will be set up?
  • Looks great so far. Keep us updated on the progress.

Many Thank Yous to All on this Intake Manifold.
We are still working togather with the Pattern Maker on the position of the carbs.and the most semple linkage that will work for everyone, and will be at the plant today to study it.
The Clifford Headers and Hudson cast iron ex.are fitting up nicely with it.
    Hudsonly Rudy and Chuck.
At our Age and Arthritus in lower back and Neck why are we doing this? Well we want to help out the Hudson owners that would like to see more Good Looking Hudson engines under our Hoods and at the same time add a little more Zip to the 232-262-308 engines as,we see more and more Brand X Engines installed as the years go by.

  • Thanks guys, we're watching, good luck and send pics and prices. Thanks, Bob P
  • Would ya'll offer it with no pre-machined carb setup, so some of us could finish it for something like a Holley-Weber progressive 2-bbl?

    Rudy,

This head and manifold project from the Texas Hudnuts is the most exciting thing I've seen in all my time Hudsoning. Many thanks to you guys from the Hudson Hot-Rodding contingent. I love the looks of that intake, its something we've needed for a long time.

I haven't installed the McCulloch yet. What time I've had to mess around has been spent monkeying around with distributors and carburetors. The blower keeps moving up closer to the top of the list.

Not familiar with Holley-Weber progressive- is that progressive within the two barrels of each carb? Because the way the the intake is configured, I don't think it would work with a conventional "progressive linkage" where it runs on one carb until you kick the other one in.

The Holley-Weber 5200 is a progressive carburetor. 2 barrel, with a progressive linkage that actuates the 2 barrels like a half-4 barrel. Fantastic carburetors, particularly for applications like this. They produced on license by Motorcraft and Carter for many OEM applications and can be bought relatively cheap. The OEM types can be found in 185, 200, and 235 cfm.

Weber also sells new aftermarket carbs of this type, which is their DGV series. The new Webers are 32mm primary 36mm secondary venturi diameter. They have a performace variety that is 36mm on both primary and secondary.

Remanufactured carbs can be bought at Tom Langdon's site for about $75 ea.

If you're going to run duals, he'll talk to you about proper sizing of the two carbs etc.

They are great for a street setup, because you can run economicly on the primaries - then kick in the secondaries when you need them deeper into the pedal. Jetting and calibration parts are interchangable between all the different makes: Carter, Holley, Motorcraft, and Weber - which makes them super tunable and affordable.
  • I agree with Mark these are my carbs of choice for multi's you can really set these up. Would love to get them on a 308.

I put one of these on my ’79 Subaru BRAT back in the early 80’s. I replaced the Hitachi single barrel with a 32/36 with an adapter kit, made a big big difference in performance on a 1600cc flat four! Only problem I had was in the winter in IN on the interstate it would freeze up the throat due to not have a shield around the front of the carb like the Hitachi did. It was pretty amazing to pop the hood and see the ice frozen all around it.
