I received a call from a Mechanic in down State Pa. restoring a '54 Hudson Hornet with only 16K Miles that had sat 50yrs inside a garage and Mtr was stuck.

I was asked to restore the car earlier but had far too many projects. However, I did provide a list of Suppliers from the HET Club WTN Listing to assist the owner with Motor rebuilding though.. (Dale Cooper and others). However, I was told Dale doesnt have stock Rings available right now.

If anyone can provide a Suppler where to purchase a set of STD Hudson 4 Rings for a Hornet would greatly be appreciated to put another Hudson back on the Road.

Thank You.
Thanks,

I've found Lester Harris of Minden Nevada - phone, home 775-267-2559, shop 775-267-2241 to be a good source of engine spares& certainly worth asking.
  • Walt mordenti here. I have a complete set of standard rings for a hornet engine. Been in my stock list for ages, as no one ever asked for standards. Contact hetwaltmordenti@aol.com Drop the het.

For any others who face this sort of need, I found that one can contact Hastings, and maybe other ring makers, and just give them the spec's on the Hudson rings (bore size, ring groove width and depth). They can provide them from stock, as rings of these dimensions aren't unique to Hudson. A bonus from Hastings is that they make a "barrel-face" compression ring that works (seals) especially well with moderately worn upper cylinders and inflicts much less wear on the cylinder walls.
  • Hudson pistons have a pin and the rings must have a recess at the open ends and can on;y be fitted one way. Can not remove the pin as that leaves a hole top to bottom. Walt.

Obviously my comments on finding the rings applies only to replacement, non-pinned rings. Thanks for pointing that out, Walt.

    FYI

Thank you guys for replying on a source to obtain a set of Std Hudson Piston Rings.

I gave the Info to the Mechanic this evening and he will be making contact..I understand after tear down the inside of the motor is excellent condition otherwise.

Incidently, a nice True Hudson story is This one owner'54 Hudson Hornet Sdn with only 16,000 miles had been parked in a dirt floor 2 car Garage since the late '50's in Conneaut Lake Pa. and suprisingly is not rusted out underneath. The Interior is excellent after cleaning but It has every fender dinged from the elderly grandmother pulling into the garage at the end of her driving days. Now her middle aged grandson wants to get it running for his grandchildren to ride. I am glad to be a small part of the resurection...

    Thanks Everyone.
