What does Mark Wahlberg have that Hudson doesn't?

Vicki, my wife, and I just recently got new cell phones. Not related to Christmas, mind you, it's just that our 2-year contract with the service provider was up. Not really sure why it happens to coincide with Christmas, but that's a different aspect altogether.
A quick trip to our nearest local strip mall, and I'm readily informed, "You want a new Smartphone? Oh, we can give you that for free!" Of course, that means signing a new 2-year contract, as usual.
So I did.
Again.
I can actually check the Hudson forum on the go, now. (Or check my business e-mail, which is the real reason for having it in the first place).
Around our house, new cell phones means there's always a "breaking-in" time where my wife and I spend an inordinate amount of time "playing" with our phones. This is usually followed by exclamations, such as, "Wow! Look what I can do, now!" And with the addition of the internet, all the cool JUNK that you can download. How cool.
Excluding the fact of having the obligatory pictures of our children, my wife's phone now has an abundant cornucopia of Mark Wahlberg photos in various Hollywood "look how cool I am" type of shots.
My phone has . . . sorry, I was interrupted in order to take a picture of cookie-making . . . pictures of Hudsons. What else? Female-Hudsons, of course. I won't even stop to ponder what would happen if I had pictures of female Humans on my phone who were someone other than my wife. Nor would I ever say anything one way or the other. Besides, I like Marky-Mark. And it makes my wife happy.
Merry Christmas, Everyone!!

I'll stick to my Jitterbug cell phone. Ok, it don't communicate with Mars, it don't take pictures and it don't make breakfast in the morning.
It does have large numerals so I can see what number I'm punching in so I don't accidentally wind up with Dial-A-Prayer or er, uh, Miss Lizzies Boarding House for Young ladies (come to think of it that might not be so bad - if I could remember why!!) :woohoo: ) and it has a phone list that's easy and simple to load (or delete) from my computer. It also has a dial tone so I know it's working. Ok, so I pay $4 extra for voice mail - that's ok.
Cost me $31 a month for 100 hours, which I can roll over up to 300. I don't have THAT many people I want to call. I bought this thing a couple years back for emergency use on the road which is important to me at my age. Little bulky, but, hey, it works for me.

I am not the king of "Tech" but I do have a bit of fun now and then trying. I went out and bought Photoshop and Wii for a Christmas present and now I have to learn how to use them. I will take a short cut and take a class the first of the year.
I do go back some time with the phone thing. As a young engineer I was required to carry the "Company Brief Case." Every few months my card would come up and they would hand it off to me. It had a calling list, map of the plant (Explosives place) a beeper (we were chartered to wear it always) and the "BRICK!" Wow, what a new inovation. Talk on the phone to someone and not be hooked to a wall by a cord. It was even push-button dial. Did we ever think we were top of the line. I became the only carrier of the phone later on, a punishment of being management; but, by then it was small and clipped to my belt. I kept the phone number when I retired--I do not know why, but there you go--living in the past......0 -
It was about 1987 or '88, when I worked for an attorney in Seattle who was very "image conscious"- he had the first cell phone I ever saw. It was in a case about the size of a woman's purse, and it was my job to carry it when we went to court. He would always call someone while in the hall at the courthouse, just to look like a big shot.
When I started my own practice in Chehalis in 1996, I had a public defender contract with the county, which had me in the courthouse a lot. I couldn't afford a secretary, so decided to get a cell phone and forward my office calls to it. The judges wouldn't stand for phones ringing in court, so I spent a good amount of money to get one with the "silent" (vibrate) feature, so I could be aware of calls and answer them if I could, otherwise they would go to message. Figured I had all the bases covered. HA! Turned out the courthouse had so much steel in it, that I couldn't get reception! There was about 300 bucks (that I could ill afford) down the tube.0 -
Like Alex, I bought mine before a long drive a few years ago. I use standard ring tones and do Not text. All I want is a phone I can make calls on when needed. I buy the usage cards and get double the minutes with my phone Buy 60 mins get 120 on my phone. I rarely call anyone except my son or doctor other than that I use my landline. I do have a camera in the phone but have only used it 4 or 5 times in 4 years.
