Hi guys and gals--- I have several rods that I need some clarification on ID. These are 6 cyl splasher rods.
5 with 38552 cast into them and came out of the rebuilt 39 engine I am working on.
1 with 155654 cast into it, came out of the same motor as above.
1 with 157359 cast into it, is a NOS rod.

The bottom two have no shims.

In keeping with the usual pattern, none of those numbers make any sense according to the parts books. However, I wouldn't lose too much sleep over that. The shimless rods were first used from 1938. They are all interchangeable. Just check the weight, that they are all equal.

All but the NOS rod came out of the 39 engine I am working on. So I assume the shimmed rods were stock and a later non shim rod was used. ?

No, the shimmed rods have been installed at some stage. All original '39 rods were precision bored non-shimmed.

seems more likely that this is not a "39" engine? How can I ID it?

Where is the Distributor located and what is the serial number?

Starting in '39, engine numbers were the same as car numbers.

Distributor is toward the rear. Block is at the machine shop right now.

1937 thru 1939 engines have oval exhaust ports and the distributor is on the passenger (right) side of the block. In 1940 Hudson moved the distributor to top rear of the engine.
