My Dad always makes me something or sends me something Hudson related. last year he sent me a puzzle with two '41 Hudson's at a gas station and this year he sent me this clock he made. They recently moved to New Mexico hince the references to NM. My wife even gave me some cash in a new wallet to use on my restoration!! Whats up with that?? She usually complains about my car taking up all the space in the garage.

Nice clock Jeff, but the nicest thing of all is that your dad did it himself. That's what I call a nice dad/son relationship! Got a nice gift too from my son, the Patrick R. Foster book: Hudson automobiles. 125 pages. I learned a lot, especialy about Essex and Terraplane cars. Michel.
  • Thanks Michel

I am going to pick up a copy of that book this week, I liked reading his articals in Hemmings Classic Car. Those are my favorite kinds of gifts. Hudson Gifts.

Here is a picture of the puzzle from last year.

A friend of mine gave me that puzzle last year. It is interesting. So far it still sits on a shelf in the back room. One of these days I'm going to put it together, then glue it to a cardboard backing and frame it.

That clock is a great gift from your Dad. I'd love to have one like that.

I need to find a puzzle like that. It reminds me of the Texaco station I worked at when I got my drivers license. There was a constant gas war going on because there were three service stations at our intersection. Those were the days of S & H Green Stamps and Bue Chip Stamps to trade in for merchandise and other goodies to bring in customers. Gas was down to 19 cents a gallon at times.

Thanks for sharing the pictures Jeff.

  • My Dad got it at some hobby store in NM. I looked up other puzzles from the same company and only two were car related. I started putting it together right away but still took me a week, I framed it and its on the wall above my tv. Thanks Lee I like to hear stories like that.

You are lucky to have a understanding supportive family. Im sure not all HET members are so lucky. Im one of the lucky ones. One of the comments made reminded me of something my father told me. During WW2 you had to use ration stamps to buy petrol. The local garage was so understanding that stamps weren't always used. They had to arrange a break in one night, because the Government person was coming to count the stamps. Regards, Barry

Now that's funny!!!! Also there was a sticker that you put on your windshield - I remember an A stamp, but have forgotten what was what (come on guys, I know I'm old - but I ain't THAT old).

I do remember stories that were told in the family. Like Dad had an old rear tined rototiller and he had a fair sized garden. He got something like 10 gallons of gas a week for the 'tiller, but could only get 3 gallons a week for the car. Needless to say we had plenty of gas - 10 gallons would run that rototiller for a month!!!! Dad had so many 5 gallon cans of gas in the storage shed we could go, occasionally, for a Sunday drive in the country with a picnic beside a nearby lake.

And then there was my grandma Bessie. She needed a pair of shoes. So down to the shoe seller she goes. Couldn't make up her mind which pair she wanted, so she blew her ration stamps for 2 years by buying two pairs of shoes!!!!!

    Was a time, for sure.

    This is a great story.

I have an "A" sticker on my '40...a friend of mine had a few made up a while ago and it is an excellent reproduction. I have seen the remnants of a green "B" sticker on a car used at Los Alamos but have never seen one in good shape or any other windshield stickers (there's supposed to be a red one. Here's a link to an interesting site:
