Dueling distributors
Catchy title, huh? In earlier posts I described how I'm not seeing the timing mark since putting in a Petronix unit on a replacement distributor. My mechanic suggested that I take the new Petronix out, put the old points distributor back in and see whether the rotor on both was pointing in the same direction. Sure enough, the rotor on the old distributor is pointing to 5:00 o'clock at TDC while the Petronix is pointing to 11:00 o'clock at TDC. I assume that this is why I don't see the timing mark on the Petronix unit. The car runs ok, but I can't time it like I want since I am not able to see the timing mark. Should I rotate the oil pump 180 degrees and move #1 to five o'clock to fix my disappearing timing mark problem?

that shouldn't do anything but move where #1 is. your relation to the timing marks will stay the same. have you adjusted the distributor with the bolt on the underside? that will move the distributor's relation to the marks0
