Hi All,

Thought you guys might be interested in a 1937 Hudson Terraplane pickup with 16,000 original miles. The guy wants $12,000 for it if anyone is interested. It is a very good restoration candidate he was going to use for yard art. Send me an Email if interested.

He planned on using it for yard art, yet he wants $12,000.00 for it? I hope that's a typo.

For 12K I would expect to be able to drive it home, perhaps cross country, and take it to the local car show this weekend and have folks tell me how great it looks and what a great buy I got on it? Most people give me "yard art" in the hopes that I will make it roadworthy? Just-saying?? Perhaps when I see the photo's I will order a large slice of "Humble Pie?" Bring on the photo's////////

Here is the add that was on CraigsList- gone now
    Extremely Rare Barn Find ~~~
Extremely Rare: 1937 Hudson Terraplane Pickup - $8500

    1937 Hudson Terraplane Pickup (Complete)
Truck is in unbelievable condition with no rust. (100% original and unmolested)
    Super low original miles
I tried to do some research on what its worth, but all I can find are ones that are over $100,000.
If you have any interest or know anything about this old classic, please email me.
    Thanks
(The truck is in Washington state)

I talked with the owner on the phone, he was supposed to send pictures but hasn't. I have a feeling it's not in as good a shape as posted.

Its amazing to me that I, who care nothing about the truck, thought someone on here might want a low mile truck in great condition for its age. Yet someone is on here talking crap about what someone wants for it and its condition. It has a few minor dents and still has its factory brown paint on it. So what your telling me is someone on here has a truck that had 16,000 miles or less on it, and in "better condition" for less money. Then again, I would never drive a 1937 anything across the country in original condition and expect it to make it. Yes the guy has a ton of money and can afford to let it sit as "yard art". I'm sorry for bothering you guys with it. I do know seeing is believing and I bet it would run with a little work and ill try to get up there and take some pics of it. Someone let me know what the truck is worth with that low of miles on it and I will take it to him and let him know. Sorry if I have offended anyone with this post. I had a 1937 Lasalle opera coupe in the same condition with 30,000 miles on it and it brought over $20,000 when I sold it so I didn't feel it was to far off for his asking price.

Vintage, I don't think anyone was criticizing you, but without much of a description people were left to conjecture exactly what a "yard art" car might look like. (And we're REAL good at conjecturing, here!) If it has the original paint and a few dents, that makes it sound a bit better than some folks were thinking. However, we've seen rusted hulks rusting into the ground, that had only a few thousand miles on them. So mileage alone doesn't tell the story. Do you have any further information on the pickup?

The 37 PU I am working on looked real good in pictures. So good that the lady in Florida bought and had it shipped to Florida.
Reality has proven it to be quite different.

Digital pics always make em look better than they really are.
  • Having purchased the initial 37 Terraplane Cap Pickup Express I restored for $4500 and then needing to buy 5 more vehicles to get missing or quality parts $12,000 would have been a bargain IF the truck is as described.

    FYI
The pickup sounds very restorable in my communicating but without pictures yet. its all there with few dents and engine is free. Doesnt sound like owner is going to negotiate much though. It sounds like a middle man is involved and good that got it mentioned here ... I could have bought a running chevy powered '36 truck with side mount for $10,500 in early 90's and passed up, only to build a '47 that cost far more....Last yr (or 2 yrs ago) Barritt Jackson sold a '37 or '38 Truck for around $40 that was Mint....Oh well....Prices keep rising but not many 30's Hudson Trucks remaining to restore.

All I'm saying is; 99% of the time, A yard art car is not worth $12K, and a $12K car is not used as yard art.

    Hence, the typo comment.

Sorry if I offended you Cycle.

    Cycle,
I too did not say what I did with th intent to make you mad. I have been buying, building and selling antique cars for better than 40 years and in todays market it is a labor of love. I am excited to see the photo's and have asked my wife to start baking the Humble pie. I pulled out my Old Cars Price Guide to get a feal of prices we are talking about and it states that a fully restored, trailered not driven perfect example sells for $16,000. A "good restorable project" (your words) is priced at $3,200. I think from this you can see why most of us reacted as we did. I hope that my words did not offend, if they did I am truely sorry.

I have been coming to this site for about two years now and I have seen way to much of this lose mouth elitism talk on here for the good of the Hudson club. Words do have consequences.Respect is earned. That is all.

Dear Mr. Petersen in your privet message you sent to me you have a few things wronge. I will leave that as it be. This much bigger that you or I, is about respect and fairness to all our Brothers and making them feel welcome as I think you would concur. Please allow me to quote. "As a club we need to expand and develop the various technologies to provide greater value to our members. we also need to continue those time-proven principles and traditions that set our club apart from many others. Simple concepts such as our respect for all Hudson-built cars;our support and assistance for our members, our sense of family and our position on non-judging of our cars provide for us an advantage over many other organizations." Thank You for you time and God bless.

Give it the benefit of the doubt. The truck might become a very high quality piece of "yard art".
Dealing with people, their possessions and aspirations can be strange at times.
  • I am interested in hearing more details, ie phone numbers, pictures, descriptions,etc..If the vehicle is still available.

    Thanks
