Thanks for sharing the picture. Very heafty looking push bars on the front bumper. I didn't know the dealers mounted tires on the side of the PU box. I have seen a couple like that but assumed it was the truck owners that added them there. That would make it alot easier to get to. Mine is under the bed.

the push bar is what Intrigues me ..

I have one on mine that was used to push dragsters at the NHRA Winter Nationals this past year -- and it's detachable -
Plus I love the Cushman with a side car

and I've not seen too many with a side spare tire mount .. was that factory?

I'm sure the push bars were only there to push brand X cars around. Love the scooter and side car also.

Nice picture you have attached there cruzer dog, nice touches with all the stainless. When I got my truck there were a couple holes and the evidence of a bar mounted across the outside of the bed right where your showing the spare that I had to weld close. Not a bad idea to hae the tire there though.

Roy Heath was a VERY sucessful Hudson dealer in Salina Kansas. The old timers around there used to joke "" the Hudsons are thicker around here than Fords"

I don't believe the side mounted spare was factory. I'm sure various dealers could have rigged some sort of a spare tire mount for the side of the bed - looks like a good idea to me!

I mounted spare on side of our 46PU using a bracket I purchased from J C Whitney for 21.99. I like the looks of side mount and it dois make it much easier, if you have to change tire.

I have a list of factory options for the PU and the side mount is not one of them.

I like the comments on the link about "Ray M. Heath", somewhere I have a tag surround that says "Roy M. Heath, Salina, Kansas". I don't think it was Ray.

Incidentially, I used to work across the street from 208 N. Santa Fe Ave, at Salina Auto Parts. When I was working there the place was still owned by the original owner who told me that when the Hudson dealership closed down and sold out, they bought some of the shelving from the parts dept. Those shelves are still there today.

Not to knit pick. But isn't that a '46, not a '47? Center grill emblem only has one rib detail around it.
