Value of a 46 Hudson super six coupe?
I just bought a 46 Hudson super six coupe in decent condition......it is a Mississippi car. Starts right up, good solid body, all the trim intact, clean interior, chrome is fine, good WW tires, original paint. Needs rewiring, repair the brakes and some glass replaced. Since this is my first Hudson I have no idea of its value, whether a super six coupe is rare, is it a good candidate to street rod etc etc. Anybody got any thoughts on this model?? This is my first project car at 64 years young and I am really falling in love with this machine. I will be joining the HET soon as it seems to be quite a network of car nuts. I also have a 38 Buick special 4 door retrorod. Thanks for any input. JR

Interpolating the book, I'd say she's worth around 7-8K as is.
If she doesn't have enough stomp for ya, drop a Hudson straight eight in it. It'll drop right in if you move the radiator to the cross-member, and will get you 138 hairy HP with the aluminum head. More power to weight ratio as the legendary Hudson Hornet, and as much as I respect Buicks, it'll beat your 38 in a drag.
The difference is, with a Hudson motor in there, everybody will stop and talk to you at a show. If you repower it with a brand X like everybody else has, nobody will give you a second look, and you'll be talking to yourself.
BTW, there's a free Hudson eight on the forum here.
Hey, it's your car, and whatever you do with it, welcome to the club.0 -

I didn't have that choice with my car - I wish I had because 1 year later with a lotta personal time and several thousand $$ in expenditures looming ahead of me just to get it roadworth - I wished I had!
Hows the rust issues? Can you post some pictures?
And of course it is your car and you may do with it what you like - but who knows you might like it the way it is?0 -
Get the coupe roadworthy and drive if for awhile. The 212 will carry it right along. Are you in MS.? If so The Mid South Chapter of the HET would like to see you at the Central Region meet June 8-9-10, 2006 in Sheffield, AL.

I agree with others; just fix what needs to be fixed, drive and enjoy it, and then develop a long-range plan (restore, hotrod, whatever). Yes, 1946 Hudson coupes are rare, comparatively speaking, but that doesn't necessarily translate into 'worth big bucks'. Most Hudson guys aren't banking on big appreciation, they're in it for the fun of tinkering with, and driving, old cars. You may want to join your local chapter of the Hudson club as well as the national, for with the local chapter you will tap into a network of fellow owners (and their technical expertise) and nearby activities. Feel free to come back to the Forum with any and all questions and 'tune into' our Hudson Chatroom too, at http://www.classiccar.com/hudson_chats.htm -- evenings are the best time to talk to someone. The Chatroom can give you more 'instant gratification' with answers to your technical questions -- IF there is someone onboard capable of answering your question!0

I found a 46 coupe here in MT.it was a little rough and the some of the stainless was bent. So I decided to rod it. Choped the top 2" put a fat man front clip and a ford 9" rear end. Im looking for a rear glass and top grill chrome. The cost of a house with a shop with paint booth newl lift and rotisserie. This has gone to far to quit now. I would like a 46-47 pickup now for myself the coupe is for my wife. It was here idea to purchase the coupe.Wish you much luck keep me informed as to your proiject.

JR.................just lay it in the weeds, tilt front end (I think those 46-47's would look really cool with a tilt front end)! Driveability...LS1 or Hemi 5.7, don't care about fuel costs.....blown BBC or early Hemi! Unfortunately, budget usually does most of your dictating. :-P
Don't believe all the talk about flatheads. Around here flatheads get about as many extra looks as I do (and believe me I'm no prize!). Around here a blown BBC or Hemi will always get at least 15 times the traffic of a flathead! But all the local Hudson owners I've talked to around here (that go to the shows at least) seem to all be cool with modifieds as they are with restoreds (even those who own originals/restoreds). Or do the purists just stay home? :-)

What did I hear the Barret Jackson Auction call those modified cars with the SBC's? I think it was 1 800 Hot-Rodd or was it 1 800 Mee-tooo? You can pick up the phone and order anything you'd like and make it look JUST like the guy parked next to you....0
