That Black felt on the gas tank staps was simmilar to heavy roofing felt. I would think that would work. I used some thin strips of conveyor belting on mine just cause I had it handy.Hood Wheltnig is also available in that width

The felt was like heavy tar paper.. mostly used to deaden out the sound. Most tanks I ever saw were just black along with the straps but bear in mind that all this stuff is under the car so unless you're entering an AACA show not too many will notice and even if you were, how many judges know Hudson authenticity? Historical accuracy is another matter.0

What Aaron says is true, but AACA judges can only judge what they can see while kneeling on one knee. So, keep that in mind. Dealers were authorized by the factories to install undercoating as rust proofing and sound deadening so if done in a workmanship manner is no deduction. I believe Hudson tanks were painted black. Don't forget that the sender for the fuel gauge must complete a ground or your gauge will"tank", so do not get too carried away with some insulating material especially around the 5 sender flange screws.0
