Coolant filter

Getting ready to have my radiator cleaned out. Thinking about putting an inline coolant filter in place after I get the rad back.

Anyone have experience with these? http://autocoolantfilter.com/

  • I used a TEBFA radiator filter on my 36T,works brilliantly, has a small magnet in the bottom that filters any metallic particles(there are quite a lot). However, unless its mounted horizontally above or level with the radiator top outlet.when you check the filter, you lose some coolant.
  • Did you mount the TEBFA on the upper radiator hose? I would be putting this in a '40 Super Six. I believe we have the same layout.

I was thinking that the crud would just fall back into the engine when the coolant was drained to check the filter.

Or did you find some other place to put the filter?

  • good point, but all the metallic particles are caught by the magnet, and i still seem to collect a bit of sludge in the bottom. The goal is to stop it getting into the radiator, and the tebfa works at that, though you lose about a litre of coolant every time you check it!

Okay so that is about the same as I loose every time I run the car. Seems like a good trade off.

Now were did you connect yours?
  • on the 45 degree inlet radiator hose that runs between the radiator and the top of the head
  • Skipster, I took your lead and put the TEBFA on my car. Decided to do it in two stages. First direct line to the radiator from the block. Then will remove that one and put it in the heater circuit like you have.

It seems to work in two ways. The big pieces are caught by the screen and the smaller suspended ones are caught by the magnet.

Surprised at the amount of crud that is being trapped. The coolant looks clear so I would not have guessed that there was so much traveling around.

    Well worth the investment, Thanks
