First Drive of year
:cheer: I got my 51 pacemaker out 2 days ago, drove it to work and back (9-10 mi), today I drove to our chapter breakfast fifty miles from here. Weather was in the thirtys but who cares? The heater works fine and I took a new chapter member with me. Twenty five members attended. What a great time and great drive. Sure do enjoy driving my Hudson.:cheer:

That's what it's all about, getting them out and driving them. I had a '51 P Club Coupe like that...miss that car.0

Fired up the Commadore and backed it out of the garage for the night. Does that count?0

Yep, I was the recipient of that 50 mile trip and it sure was good to be in a Hud again. Had good company and conversation with Jim. I hadn't been a chapter member for many years and it was great to see some old faces and to meet new ones too. Can't wait to get the 54 Special out of the barn too.

I have no idea how I would handle a winter without driving my car. When there is a thaw, the snow is off the road and there is no fog I fire up the old babe and go for a ride. I guess being retired has its advantages. I get to drive the ole hudson every month of the year. I pulled the old 36 out of the shop in early January and there were black clowds everywhere. Drove into town twenty miles away and grabbed a diet coke float at the local Sonic. About three miles from home the snow started to fly--flakes almost as big as a silver dollar. Pulled into the shop with just enough water on the car that I could wipe her down. Turned on the football game and two hours later when I went into the house there was six inches of snow on the driveway and I had a big smile on my face. My wife asked: "Where ya been?" I replied: "Now where?" "Just out in the shop." LIG!!!0

I would like to drive my Hudson year round but since most of the time my cars have been projects to this point I find having the winter away from them keeps my enthusiasm up (when I get back to them) and my sanity.0

Keep driving them, that is the fun of it. I have a Nissan pickup I bought new in 2004 and had a recall for a steering shaft. When I took it in to the dealer he asked why it had such low mileage (41,000)being 7 years old. I told him it was because I drive my old cars, Hudsons. He said so you are the guy that drives those Hudsons around!! I said yup with a big smile on my face. Can't beat driving Hudsons. Richie.0

I take the Wasp to work at least twice a month; 60 miles round-trip. I did my seasonal maintenance this weekend, including a bottle of 'dry-gas', mixed in with a couple gallons of regular (no-lead).
The pump at the gas station says "10% ethanol". Is adding dry-gas a redundant step now?

Just got tags on mine, so I just took my first LEGAL drive in my 52 Hornet, ever. Now i can get out further than my furtive drives around the block.
Now to get those gremlins shook out and hopefully knock them rings in #4 loose.0 -
Grim,
I have a 308 that set for 30+? years and the rings and some of the valves didn't want to get working again, although it would run. I poured in a can of Rislone and a quart of kerosene, ran her for about 20 minutes and then let it sit overnight. In the morning it took about 5 minutes and the valves quieted down and the smoke from the tail pipe and breather stopped! I would recommend doing that as it worked for me.

Thanks for the tip, I've been running Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas and crankcase. Haven't been able to drive it enough to get a feel for if it's helping or not.
Just took a drive to the gas station and grocery store and my tRusty old rattler already got a couple compliments.Took it up one of our steep hills around here too. Put my foot in it, the Hydro downshifted, and it ran up that hill without missing a beat.

A year or so ago I was complimented by my GTO buddy about how well the 54 pulled a long and steep grade. Should have seen his expression when I told him that #3 had only 10 pounds compression and the rest were hovering around 60 lbs.

I'm envious! 'Car Season' is just a few weeks away around here. I did start mine up on Saturday to warm it up and just kind of bask in the glow and smell of that old six cylinder. Can't wait to get it out....just a few more weeks...0
