An excellent article. It seems that, in recent times, the number of Hudson articles has increased, and they are pretty much factual and correct - something that has been missing in earlier articles.

Thanks, Harry, for that post. did Hudson actually offer a color combination as seen on the Pacemaker,ie, the lower section of the body below the beauty line, a different color? In this case dark brown vs the creme upper. BTW the ad at the end of the article selling the History of Hudson features my 53 on the cover. Ron

The factory did not offer the unique two tone as seen on this '51 Pacemaker, however, my Dad and most other Hudson Dealers did offer this type of two tone to their customers, mostly because it was a very unusual touch, and the Dealers became used to it as a factory option in '48, '49 and early '50. Was a very simple process, and really was a profitable option!

That's a great article, and as Alex pointed out, very thorough. Most interesting, to me, was the influential impact that Tatra design elements were incorporated into the Step-down scheme. Additionally, Tatra apparently had an influence on the design of the Tucker, as well. I've talked with Ken Ufheil about this very aspect before, but never actually seen it in print.

Very good read, thanks for posting.

As an obscure aside, I think the two-tone on the PM looks good, but would look better if those two colors were reversed.
  • Any one know where we can find the back side window shades, both sides please??
This would be for a brougham, pretty long on the side back windows. Thanks, Bob

You mean those stainless sunvisor pieces that go over the side-windows and effectively make them more narrow?
  • I WAS THINKING THESE WERE CALLED "VENT SHADES", AND I BELIEVE DALE COOPER SELLS THEM FOR ALL MODELS OF THE STEPDOWNS. {in stainless} The original ones from the HUDSON dealers were chrome plated brass, with green paint on underside.:)

As far as I can remember, "VentShades" were always made of stainless steel with the dark green "flat" finish on the underside - even in the mid to late 30's.
