What is our age demographic?
The age distribution of Hudson folks was briefly brought up in another thread, where it was mentioned that our demographic appears to skew towards the 50 years plus range.
I wonder if this is true? Is Hudson doomed to be forever consigned to the collector car sidelines because younger car fanatics are not interested in it (and may not even know what Hudson is)?
So let's take a poll.
How old are we?
No need to admit your age, if you don't want to (the poll is anonymous).
BTW, I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm probably one of the younger folks around here at 35.

I'm 56 and have been at it for 21 years. Lots of fun.

Probably that average age IS going to be around 50. We're old enough to be "into" Hudsons, but young enough to also be into computers....thus, this Forum. I bet if you took a "poll" at a Hudson National Meet, the average age would creap up to 60-65.0

I'm 61 & got my '28 Essex RS Coupe in August '65. I've had a lot of fun with it since.

I'm 102, and have been for fifty years... Young whippersnapper!0

i will be 70 in april and move to another group in the poll but half my life , 35 years have been dedicated to building hudsons, BILL ALBRIGHT0

Just realised I made a mistake in the age ranges (and can't change the poll). Someone who is an even 40, 50, 60, etc. could fit into either of two categories.
Ah well, no matter. If you're an even multiple of ten, pick the lower range, and help us all feel younger!0 -
I am 43 years old, but have been acquainted with the Hudson name for years. My Grandfather bought Hudsons exclusivly from the thirties up until his last one in 1955. Dave A.0

I was 42 when I bought the 49 - its been 1 year so If I remember my math I'd be 43 now - the memory starts to go the soonest...LOL!
Oh yeah and Rambo is 5-1/2 so that makes him what 37?0 -

I agree. This forum is going to be younger than HET. Niels0 -
I just past the 51st birthday. My first Hudson was in 1971 (when they were just old used cars). The demographics then seemed to me that a majority of the members were in their 50's.0

I'm 58 and bought my first Hudson almost 20 years ago. I had Olds 88's in high school (and still have several along with the Wasp and 2 Hornet Coupes ).0

Bought my first 49 Hudson Super Six at 19 in '55. Wrecked that one and had another 49, a 50 Wasp and a 52 Hornet over the next 10 years. Got involved with work and family and got a 49 Commadore in '98, While restoring it, bought a 36 Terraplane, found 2 46 PUs, sold one, bought it back, sold it again, bought a 40 Eight Coupe, a 39 Country Club, 2 more 49 parts cars, a 52 HH Hornet, a 46 parts car, a straight 8 motor, a 47 Pickup, a 54 Wasp parts car, a restorable 49 and a 39 eight parts car w/electric hand. I think that's all of them.
The 36 T, the 47 PU, the restored 49 C and the 52 w/the 8 are all on the road. Either the 40 or the 46 PU is next.

I am 29, grew up around Hudsons my whole life. My dad has had anywhere from 5-10 Hudsons at any given time during my life, my grandfather owned 4 when he passed away. My Grandfather was a diehard Hudson fan. My childhood was full of HET meets, searching for parts cars, and memorable trips in a 50 C6. Unfortunately, most of the guys my age I know are interested in 70's muscle cars....

I've been agitating people for 68 years - 1937 was a very good year!!!! I plan on being around for a few more years. Plan at the moment is to shot at age 84 by a jealous husband. LOL

I'm 50 and got afflicted by Hudsons when I was a teenager because my uncle drove them. I dreamed of having a '68 GTO and thought Hudsons were stupid old cars but one day I had an epiphany for some reason and achieved enlightenment. I had my first Hudson, a '54 Hornet in '75, I think. Then I got a '51 Hornet in about '78. They were both every-day cars for me. Simultaneously, I got into British motorcycles. About '84 I was too interested in bikes and career stuff to worry about the Hornet, which was just sitting by that time. I figured I had gotten the Hudson thing out of my system so I sold it for $300 - what was I thinking? In '99 the aforementioned uncle and I found a Super Wasp on a car lot at the end of his street. We bought it and now I'm addicted again. We share the Super Wasp and a Hornet.0

Just turned 52,I found a 1933 Essex Terraplane in a barn in 1970,(which I purchased in 1980 and still have), bought my first Hudson(1953 Hornet 4dr)in 1973 and haven't been Hudsonless since then.I have belonged to the HET for 33 years, and I blame my incurable "Hudsonitis" on Ray Stevens (thanks Ray!).....Scott0

Just turned 59..have had my Wasp just over a Year now, but took my very first ride in a Hudson when I was 8....That car was given to my mother by my grandfather and I just knew that some day I would own one of my own.....
After 50 Years and buying stuff for Prior and current Wife I finally got my dream...
By the way I went to this years National in Reno and there were as many WALKERS there as there were Hudsons....LOL0 -
I'm 33, and have wanted the 50 S6 Brougham I now own since I was 13.0

I'm 46 and enjoy working on my '46 pickup. Would have loved a '59, something as old as me, but Hudson did not have a pickup that year.0

My first ride was in a 27 Essex over 77 years ago. Never without a HET product in that 77 years belonging to my dad or me. My first was a 32 Essex rumble seat coupe.0

I'm 45 and got my first Hudson this year,308 Twin~H powered 49 C8.Sure I lusted
after a couple local stepdowns as a teen, but gee I wanted one of everything then...
I've had my 57 chevy sedan delivery for 30 years and probably always will, but the
Hudson is new enough that I still need to pinch myself when I go out in the shop to
make sure its real. Quick story, Second time out with the Hudson, smaller downtown
cruise-in. Met an older couple there and talked quite a while ,exchanged email adresses
etc. when a 46 or 7 Hudson drives by with a for sale sign in the window. Long story
short this 80 year old gentleman bought it and then the next week emailed me
wondering why I'd not been to the HET chapter meeting. I've gotta get with the
program!0 -
43 going on 85! Eyesight and near everything else is going (where's my sawzall)! Got my Hudson a couple months ago. Never really heard about them before but they're cheaper than a Merc! lol My next project is going to be a 55/56 Buick Hardtop or Convertible (for the wife)!0

Nearly 68, had my first drive in a '29 Essex in 1954. Bought my '28 Essex in '56 for $20, and driven it virtually constantly ever since, including many years as my business car. It has been off the road periodically for maintenance, paitning, upholstery, etc. but now has total of nearly 500,000 miles. Once the need for two cars came along with marriage, I have owned a '36 Graham Crusader, '35 Terraplane, Ford Pilot (English V8), '39 H8 country club l.w.b., Ford Anglia, Hudson Jet bought for $50 in '71, still driving it, week about with the Essex. Restored first '29 H 7 pass sedan in '72, sold it after 20 years, rebuilt another in '96, still got it. Imported a '53 Hornet (r.h.d.) from U.S. in '01. Worst cars go equally to the Graham and the Ford Pilot.

Am going on 65 have been involved with Hudson cars since about 1955, I started restoring back in 1968.
My first Hudson which incidently I learnt to drive on was a home made ute my father and late brother made from bits of a 1937 sedan cut down and they married a '40 front end on it and dash board .
In the late 60's and early 70's I restored a 1934 Hudson 8 sedan and a 1935 Hudson 8 coupe,We have just sold our 1946 Hudson coupe which I bought off my late brothers wife after his death in 1993 and the car I will have till I can no longer drive is our
1942 Hudson Two Door Brougham which I purchased from Hal Waddell back in 1989.

I'm 49, going on 18. I told my wife that when I was ready to get out of racing, I was going to find an old car, and fix it up. My '48 was sitting out in a field off I-30. I was making runs from Memphis to Fort Worth, and kept staring at the car each time I passed it, even though I thought it was a Mercury. After buying it, I drove it around for about a year, and decided to "modernize" it. I have been "modernizing" it for the past 5 years, but was able to drive it around all last Summer. Since all the changes I made worked, I've now taken the car down to it's "lowest common denominator", and am now in the process of putting it all back together, painting, plating, and detailing as I go. I know I still have a long way to go before it's completed, but I'm in no hurry. It just has to be finished by the time my wife and I retire,(17 more years) because that's what we're going to be traveling the country in!0

I am 26 years old and have been involved with hudsons since i was 8 or so when my parents joined the club, except for a few years of "rebelling", i guess, I was brought back to my senses and now own a 49 super six sedan.
