Center Steering Pivot Install
Awhile back I bought a center steering kit from Randy Mass.. been sitting on the shelf for awhile, and now ready to tackle the job. I have the reamer specified for the locating pin.
Has anyone done this job, and can give me some feedback on the process.. difficulties... tricks, etc... little or no directions come with the kit.

If you have to do it the hard way you will need at least a drill press and a press.
First trick is to get the taper pin out so you can remove the centre pin. You may be lucky and be able to drift or press the taper pin out but most probably not. Most likely you will need to set the centre pivot up in the drill press and drill the pin, or at least remove enough so you can press the centre pin out, shearing the remains of the taper pin.
Second trick is to press the centre pin in to the correct height, its got to be right to within .010" or .25mm.
BUT, big BUT. Third trick. Before you press the new centre pin into the housing you have to know how you are going to hold the casting in your drill press so you can neatly drill through the new pin along the axis of the existing holes in the casting. You will need a drill vice and some pieces of timber or metal to bolt to the drill table to make packers so the casting is in just the right position. Put a small flat on the centre pin so your drill bit doesn't skid off to the side when trying to get started.0
