there is a Dalgetty bodied '34 Railton here. It was on the cover of the prior WTN & is offered for sale in the current WTN.

I am aware of a few more open cars that can be added to the list.

In Western Australia, at the time Martin Dawson sold his 34 Terra Rdr to V. Parziale, there was also a 35 Terraplane Rdr running around.

In South Australia, there are two 34 Terraplane Rdrs - one is restored and the other I believe is in original condition but not on the road.

In Victoria, there is also an older restoration 35 Terra Rdr and a 34 Terra Rdr undergoing restoration.

Tasmania, Queensland and New South Wales have been covered by others.

What I find interesting for 1936, is that I only know of 3 x 1936 Terraplane rdrs. One in South Australia, Victoria and Queensland and all have been restored.

I am sure that there are still more out there sitting in sheds that we don't know about yet.

    Regards Phil

    Just thought of another.

In Victoria, there is also a 35 Terraplane special bodied rdr/racer undergoing restoration.

    Bob,

    very interesting conversation!
did Dalgetty in fact build bodies or just sell cars? The "Dalgetty" Railton I mentioned earlier looks a LOT like my friends a '34 sports tourer bodied by Ranalah in England.

Pete, Dalgety are mainly known as a large Australian importer, exporter, merchant, trader, they are not known to have been body builders.

I would imagine that a Dalgety tag on the Railton merely means that they were the importers and/or sellers of that vehicle rather than the body builders. I have seen oval Dalgety tags made from brass on stepdown firewalls with the word Dalgety written in a cursive script. It would be interesting to know if the Railton's tag is similar.

Bob - I assume you belong to HET? If so, take a look at the cover car in next to last issue, that's the "Dalgetty" '34 Railton.
I didn't read carefully the ad for it in latest WTN but I'm sure Ray put his e-mail address in it & if so you could contact him & ask him that. It is very original & I believe the last Railton he has (was once the largest collector of them in the world, had 6).
  • I got some photos from the guy in Tasmania that has the other 34 Ruskin body Terraplane phaeton or tourer. It seems he took the rear from a Ruskin bodied car and with a lot of work and three other Hudsons to complete, he has a 34 Hudson pheaton. It is a beautiful car and he has another Hudson plus others and he also uses them for weddings. As I was telling my friend J. Fritz, I guess I need to sell mine or get into the wedding business.
    Hope you enjoy the photos.
Here is the web site to see his fleet: www.theuntouchables.net.au

Here is also a copy of the original Hudson artist rendering of the Terraplane that Ruskin used to copy.
  • I believe I have bought one of the missing vehicles.  In my research about my commercial Hope Body Works Brisbane produced Terraplane ambulances as well as utes
