If the idle is smooth, choke open and the exhaust gases are relatively clear but still smell rich, what do I need to "adjust, correct, fix"?????????

And can I do it with the carb still mounted on the manifold?

Try turning the air adjusment screw in until the idle stumbles, then back it out just enough to get a smooth idle. If you have it turned too far in you will get a stumble on accelleration.

And where is that located on my Carter WA-1 749S carb? This isn't the screw with the spring on it, is it? It is another screw I should be looking for, correct?
  • If you smell rich, there is nothing you can do outside the carb to correct this. You may have the wrong meter Rod, should be 75-704, and set with tol T109-102. Walt
