Alabama Tornados

Need to keep everyone affected by the tornados in our prayers. We are in Huntsville and there were at least 6 touch downs in our county of Madision and 9 fatalities. The Mid South Chapter had a meet scheduled for tomorrow in Crump TN. Not sure if it is still going to happen. We are pretty new to this area so were planning to make that our first chapter meet. Unfortunately that will not be possible. At least we are safe but there's alot of suffering going on all around us.

Unbelievable weather. We in the northeast rarely get these storms and are very fortunate for that. I saw in one news coverage of a storm last week the front end of a '55 or '56 Crown Vic sticking out from some damage. The front still looked ok. These recent storms have had a "Katrina" effect. If the system continues for days, the death toll could reach 1000.

So far we been lucky here in the NW corner of Memphis (Frayser). We have had high winds and vicious thunder boomers, but tornadoes seen to pass us by on either side north and south.

We did loose power for about 36 hours, but all is slowly returning to it's hectic normalcy here.

Our thoughts and prayers to any who had damage and tornadoes.

  • I am so glad that I haven't heard of any damage to my Hudson friends or their vehicles. Mainly my Friends Vehicles can be repaired or replaced but I deem every one of My Friends as IRREPLACABLE!!!! So take care and please be safe if at all possible. I don't have enough friends that I can afford to lose any, Not even ONE.

  • The people there do need our prayers,my cousin was killed in that tornado, she lived on the Hillsboro area.It was about a mile from my sisters house , she did not get any damage. I was planning on going to Crump tomorrow ,i don't know if i will make it now or not.

As a part of my 40 plus years in aerospace I would visit the NASA facility in Huntsville three or four times a year, sometimes more often. In all the time I spent in Alabama and Florida I never did do any more than a tornado drill or a huricane drill. I have been in both places with the aftermath of both types of storms and they are tragic. I for one will keep all my friends back there in my prayers... And next time you go out to the original Greenbrier have some catfish and pulled pork for me... That is the one thing I miss about not being in Huntsville anymore....

While attendance was down this year in Crump we did have about 25 HET'ers and 8 cars. The crew from Nashville didn't come this year, but not sure if that was caused by the storms. Most that were there were from the area.

Randy and Nell Owen didn't make it, but reports say that's because they have no power in their area - seems their house survived and the are running a generator Sherry said Nell bought in Florida and hauled home along with some survival rations for Randy.

I think, regards long distance, we had 4 from Olive Branch, MS, and of course I came in from Memphis, which is about 100 miles for me. Ditto Olive Branch.

All in all a decent meet with much concern for members in the affected areas. We had our usual lunch at Hagy's Catfish Hotel, which is next to the Tennessee River, and I can report the Tennessee River was higher than normal. My first Crump meet was in 2007 - at that time we were in drought conditions and you could almost walk across the river at that time.

  • As Alex said, a good meet, not as many as the Murfreesboro, TN meet but a good one. My grandson and a close friend of mine came. Normally my grandson would be playing baseball but the storms shut his school down, cancelled baseball games, and moved his family in with us(they had no power). His first Hudson meet but has attended other car functions before, and we drove our 47 coupe around Fri before the Saturday meet.
The storm came within 1000 feet of my grandson's home(east of Athens,AL), they were lucky/blessed.
Thanks for all the prayers and help sent to the affected areas.
