Unusual H145 head

I acquired this iron head yesterday. Anybody know what it is? I never saw one with this aluminum tag on it.

I've seen them - my understanding is that at times when aluminum was short during the Korean war, these heads were made. They had the higher compression of the aluminum head.0

According to Gary Klann, Nick S is right on the mark. When the Korean war was going on, every industry was asked by the gov't to use less aluminum, Hudson chose to make high comp. heads from cast iron, we've got a couple of these at the Twin-H-Ranch. Delco Radio at the time was using a small oval aluminum tag riveted to the bottom of the radio cases to put the model & serial numbers on, also the date the radio was installed, I've got documentation, dated May 1951, which says the tag will be discontinued as no one ever put the installation date on them anyway, and a black on silver decal will be used from that time on. Tag was about 1"X3/4" & .060 to .090 thick, sounds like a small savings , but when you're producing 1,000,000 +/- per year it adds up!0

That is exactly like the one I recently posted pictures of and discussed on the board.

It's identical to the head on my r.h.d. (South African assembled) 1953 Hornet.0

My 51 Hornet 4d sedan had one of those. I ask about it on here. I sold the car to the guy in Texas that transports cars. That car would scream.0

Further to this, my Hornet has "Super Power Dome" on the head in raised letters, and the number 305854, plus "Use Premium Fuel", which I can't find in the parts book, only the standard 308 head 304629. however the parts book does list the an add-on name plate for head 305922, of which I can find no other reference. There is a cast iron 308 head listed (Optional) 305833. They sure did some strange things! Can someone inform me of the difference between the head gaskets listed for C.I. and alloy heads?0
