Looking to buy 6 Volt universal fuel pump for my 1950. Do I have to look for a 6 Volt positive ground one or doesn't it matter.

All of the 6 volt pumps I have owned operate just fine in a Hudson with positive ground. I have actually never seen a polarity sensitive pump.

ADDED: After my iniital post, I got to thinking that I had seen a polarity sensitive fuel pump specification sheet. So, I pulled out my Carter Books and sure enough the 6 volts are not polarity sensitive, but the early Carter 12 volt electric pumps were for some and not for others. My experience is as stated above.

    Good Luck

Polarity doesn't matter at all, unless you have some sort of electronic control. I recently fitted a flasher unit, to find the pilot light terminal had no output. Undid the can, and found it had some sort of transistor connected to this terminal. Reversed the polarity, and it worked, but this is of course no option on a Hudson system, so I wired up a couple of diodes and connected the pilot light through these.

Most pumps have separate wires for power and ground rather than just a power wire and being "internally grounded" by contact with the frame or body metal. So just look at the markings to determine which wire is positive, ground that one and supply power to the other one.
