the 308 i have had a 262 head on it when i got it. will be installing a new gasket so i don't know if i should o back with the 262 head or try to buy a 308. i hate the thoughts of it sitting around without a "cap" but i have heard cons about using that smaller cumbustion chamber on a 308 with todays gas. should i throw it on or wait and hunt?

Should be O.K. unless someone has had it milled too far. Hudson heads were originally 2" thick, measure at one of the lugs on the left side but if there's a lot of paint scrape it off as best you can. A head with as much as .060" taken off should be O.K.0

A 262 head, stock is 2 inches, measure at the four corners and the 2 middle head bolts. If it measures at 1.970, that's 30 under, you can use this head. If cut more than that, you will have to retard the timing to use 87 octane, or use 89 or 91. Walt0

wow, i hadn't even thought about the head being milled. i measured it today and it's had .040 milled off. i'll check on getting a 308 head if i can't find one i'll slap on this one and get premium. thanks for replys.0

Find out what size the head is before you buy. Again, stock is 2 inches and 308 heads can be milled 0.060", factory tech tip, if more, keep an eye on #3 and 4 cylinders at the headgasket on the left side, driver. This is where they blow. Walt.0
