The cross member at tranny will have to be changed and why not change rear end as well.0

YOU SAY YOU HAVE DSbORG WARNER TRANNY, BUT DO NOT SPECIFY IF IT IS THE BW AUTOMATIC OR THE BW DOUBLE LEVER STICK TRANY, BOTH CAN BE USED, BUT YOU NEED A LOT OF THE PARTS FROM ORIG, CAR, ESPECIALLY DRIVESHAFT, STEERING COL SHIFT LEVER, ETC, ETC, BILL ALBRIGHT0

Your right Bill the 54 has an automatic tranny. I am wondering if the parts will just bolt in or do I have to do some mods and manufacturing. The 54 has all the parts needed. I would also like to move the master cylinder from under the floor to on the firewall, has this been done by anyone here? ...thanks...Jim0

Hmmm..not much for replies does any one know?0

To move the master cylinder you can do one of three things find a 54 with power brakes and move the master cylinder, booster and pedal assembly in which should fit nicely. Move the original master cylinder to the firewall and fab a bracket and pedal assembly to make it work or buy an aftermarket kit to do it and then plumb that back into the Hudsons brake lines.
The 308 should go in nicely but you will probably have to change the tranny crossmember and use the parts from the 54 donor car even up to using the driveline and I would change out the rear diff as well while I was at it. Lots of work but not huge mods, just a little time and patience and a lot of measuring and test fitting.0 -
the crossmember will be more than swapping parts as i believe the standard does not have a separate member whereas the autos have a bolt in center segment0

Nick the standard transmission does indeed have a crossmember. HOWEVER that one is riveted in the side rail frame members. The hydro unit was bolted on so in order to swap crossmembers, you have to grind down the rivet heads on the standard tranny crossmember before bolting up the new hydro crossmember. One other thing to remember is that when switching from standard to hydro in cars built before 51, you also must switch out transmission floor pan covers. The cars produced after 51 all used hydromatic pans {higher} . Prior to the 51 models you had only standard tranny pans{lower} In 51 there were both types used. Higher pans must be used for hydro transmissions due to the increased hight of the unit themselves. You might be able to rework a standard pan but it would be easier to just get a hydromatic pan.0
