Pertronix Ignition for 1948 Commodore six
According to the specs I have, it shows a 1948 Commodore six has an Autolite distributor model number IGS-4213-1 and that the car is 6volt Postive ground. Is this all correct? I've seen on previous posts that a pertronix #1362 P6 is used on the 308's, but the guy is telling me I need a 1569 P6 and is special order @$169.95.....
Thx. Niels

I put the 1362 P6 in my 308 cost $105 bucks. The 308 has a IAT 4009 distributor. Pertronix lists the part number you show for 37-47 Six's so he is probably right.0

Better get straightened out guys.
The 47 is a 212 cid 3x5 splasher with a distributor that turns Counterclockwise.
The 48 is a 262 cid 3.5625 x 4.375 full pressure with a distributor that turns Clockwise.0 -
I also have this ignition kit in my Wasp... it does not depend on the rotation direction for operation. All of the light based ignition systems operate with a shutter mechanism that attaches to the center of the distributor the shutter turning creates a short burst of light at the moment the ignition coil is to be collapsed... that light burst is created equally well in either direction. The dwell is the time between slits which is the time when the coil is building the charge to fire the spark plugs.
My system was well worth the dollars and time.0 -
Ken, what do you mean by lightburst. The Petronix modules work by creating a on off magnetic field at the point of ignition. There is no light or shutter mechanism. In talking to the Pertronix factory when I got my unit they told me that rotational direction was important because of the way the unit is calibrated. I know of another guy trying to modify a unit for a Packard and he could not get it working because his distributor rotated the other way when he called Pertronix they said it won't work, but of course they could build him one for $$$0

Right on... got my ignition systems mixed. The light system is made by Elightignitons an Essex Corp. product. It is indeed a light emmitting diode shuttered to switch the ignition. It includes a spark intensification amplifier. The Petronix is as you say... a magnetic system and it is installed in a 4009A distributor which is currently mounted in my distributor machine. I have used the Pertronix equipped distributor in my Wasp... and operated well. I was unaware that the Petronix would be rotation sensitive... I have run this in my machine and it appears to work both ways.. guess I will check again. Anyway.. sorry for the misstatements... apparently I need to be more awake to tackle these technical commentaries...:>}0
