Nice talk by Ed Souers about his car. It's got to be one of, if not the best one out there. Magnificent restoration by a firm with many Pebble Beach winner credentials.0
-
I'm not sure which auction it will be in, but I hope he puts a reserve on the car. I am really surprised Ed is selling it.0
-
Didn't he buy another one last year in Spokane. Plus he still has to restore the X161 sedan.0

absolutely a beautiful car:ohmy:0

Italia GT? What is this baloney about a Gran Turismo Italia? Is that auction company BS to falaciously increase the value? NEVER have heard of anything GT about an Italia. They surely don't handle or perform like any car that deserves a GT designation. They are, after all, Hudson Jets with Twin-H and a slightly lower center of gravity but no drivetrain or suspension or brake upgrades.0

In My opinion The Italia was one of the ugliest cars Hudson ever built. As you said it was a rebodied Jet...But Different strokes for different folks. I hope He gets what He wants for it.

Being a Hudson driver for just a bit more than a decade I have had a lot of folks make some rather nasty comments about cars that I was driving. OK, I have developed some pretty thick skin. My experience has been that people really like Hudsons or they hate them. Hearing Hudson folks define the looks of a car as negative kind of sets me back a bit. There seems to be a bit of the pot calling the kettle black going on here.
Had a friend tell me once that perhaps you do not need to tell people everything that you think. Seems to me to be good advice... If anyone has a restored car that they think is "ugly" drop it by my shop... I would be proud to have and drive it..... An Italia would be at the top of my list.0 -
I like them because they are so rare. It's great to see such a great job done on Ed's Italia.
At car shows, people come by my Essex and ask me if I had ever heard them referred to as 'ass-aches'. I tell them, "Yes, and I'll bet you'd love to have this 1930 'ass-aches' I have!" Most smile , nod their head 'yes', and walk around the car once more.
Gotta love ALL Hudson products!0 -

After seeing the size of you arms, it is the greatest looking car I have ever seen!!!!! LOL
Can't wait to see it finished. I've only seen pictures of how they look when finished and they look great in my eyes.
Keep us posted and thanks for sharing pictures of your progress.
Have a great day.

Lee, FYI, that is Paul's son. His arms are twice as large!0

Love that Italia. It was a concept car of what could have been for Hudson. Would not have gone into production like that but some of the elements would have sure looked nice on a new Hudson.
If Hudson had survived as an Indy would have once again been a car ahead of the pack.0 -
I didn't mean to hurt anyones feelings. As I said, Different strokes for different folks. If my opinion offends you, I can't help that. I Love my 54 Hornet But,that is also my opinion.
Since when was it against the law to state my opinion. I see lots of opinions expressed on this forum, and respect all of them. But when it comes to my opinion, I am entitled to it and expect it to be respected. I know Ed loves His Italia, and respect that but I just don't care for it, and Paul Loves his '57 and I would never criticize it. I'm not a big fan of pre-war cars but I know plenty of people that are and I respect their opinions. So I will continue to Voice my opinions, One of which is that I admire the time and dedication it takes to restore a car (HUDSON or NOT) and the money it takes to do it right. I also like the Street Rods and am impressed with the Planning and hard work that goes into one of them.
So if anyone thinks I was putting down the effort Ed put into the car. You Are Wrong! I just don't car for the styling. And that's all I have to say about that!

If this is the one I think it is I remember it sitting in a run down barn in Redondo Beach, Calif. for many years & I'm sure Albright got it for a pittance.
Then there was the Italia I saw sitting on a used car lot on Firestone Blvd. in central L. A. I knew Herb wanted one, called him but his wife answered & she ended up buying it for him for a Xmas present, at the MONSTROUS price of $5000 (in exc. condition with a 265 cu. in. Chevy in it); think it's still in L.A.
And then there was the X-161 a janitor had sitting in a shed in downtown L. A., but that's another story, LOL.
