Current temperature in Oklahoma City is 108.1 F. Is this what we can expect for National?

Just have 'em in Spokane every year- or better yet, Seattle- about 78, light breeze, and clear as a bell here today. Should be for the rest of the summer. There are few places as dreary in the winter, but few as glorious in the summer! :cheer:

We were in OKC week ago Thursday and 4th of July, both days were over 100F temps. The whole south central US is experiencing high temperatures and minimal rain. Our week in OK and KS was accompanied by 100 degree temperatures everyday.

Hope for no wind and lower temps with some rain ... might cool down the event.

Cluck, cluck, cluck - that is why we have AIR CONDITIONING in this part of the country!!!! Go outside and enjoy the cars for a while; come back into the hotel and hit the bar for a beer or the lobby for stimulating conversation with old friends, making new friends. Don't sweat (no pun intended) the small shi, er stuff!!!!!

I know a lot of us are "ancient" and heat gets to us - but I (at 73) intend to come, see, enjoy despite the heat. Comes down to what's important - comfortable temps at EVERY national, or getting together with the cars and people we love.

Come on people - are we some sort of wussies?????????? If it's to hot to drive a Hudson without an AC unit (and I know some had this problem in Nashville) bring a brand-x with AC.

BUT JUST COME AND BE PREPARED TO ENJOY THE PEOPLE AND CARS AND A GREAT TIME.

Do I ever Remember Nashville, didn't go to another one until Auburn.

If you all drive your air conditioned grocery getters then you woun't even have to leave the bar or banquet to go out to see what old car or guy that died from the heat.

If it's hot enough for air, it's to hot to go set in a parking lot in the sun.

I haven't been to many national meets because they are often during the week and I am working, but the hottest :evil: one I went to was in Cleveland about 30 years ago. Maybe it wasn't really that bad, but things seem to get exagerated over time. My dad and I drove down for the day (from Saginaw Mi) in a car with no A/C. I felt really bad for our dog that came along for the ride. I am not bringing a dog to OKC this year..........

I didn't make Iowa City - Nashville damn near killed me!!! Would I do another scene like Nashville - damn straight I would. When all is said and done just getting together makes it worth it. Don't get thru this old world without a little pain!!!!

On to OKC - 10 more days and we'll be, as the song says, Westbound and down!!!!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo:

I'm looking forward to OKC. I will be bringing alot of different parts for people. I will be bringing a couple of Stepdown gas tanks,striped,sealed inside,,POR-15 painted on the outside,complete with new sending units and pick-up tubes-ready to install. This will be added to all the other stuff I sell. You will find me in the parking lot as usual. Everyone have a safe trip,CU there,CG

Better think again. OKC is only about 500 ft. elevation and the humidity can be very oppressive.
Dry heat? No way! It's going to be HOT and MUGGY.

Would you mind taking a picture of your selling area? Maybe a few others too? Some one will take pictures of the cars. But not too many people take pictures of the swap area. That's where I'm usually at too and I can't go this year.:(

Nashville about killed me too. I drove my 51 HH and my son drove a dark blue 52 Hornet. Rode all over Nashville in the back seat site seeing. Oh my g--.Its worth it tho. This year I hope to make it to Okl. It will be my 50th year in the club. Attended my first HET meet in 1964 at Hamilton, Ohio in the same 52 Hornet my son drove to Nashville.

Don't know who you are but we must know each other as my 1st Meet was at Hamilton, Ohio too!
Also agree on Nashville - worst time I've ever had at a National. By noon the swap meet was untenable, everyone adjourned inside + motel itself a total loser, ran out of food, A/Cs broke down, etc.! I remember we had to "hole up" in the bar, only 1 gal working, so we helped her bus the tables.
Back to query about a National in Arizona. We had a "kaboob" 2 days ago, a WALL of dust thousands of feet high and miles wide moving at speeds up to 60 mph. People were told to park beside the freeways, airport closed for over an hour, literally closed down central Phoenix - luckily I 20 miles from that area. OH, the temperature, it had cooled down to only 107 after hitting an all time record of 118 a few days before that.
Okla. holds no interest so not going however Gettysburg could be a wonderful site.

Believe it or not, having lived down here for a number of summers (including 1980; 69 days above 100 degrees), we took the expected heat into account. There will be watering stations throughout the grounds; the hotel has multiple entries leading indoors to refrigerated air and various altars of libation; we are even working on an outdoor surprise. The swap meet area is surrounded by mature trees(read shade!)and there are more swimming pools than I can count...but of course I'm not all that bright. Despite the heat we are going to have FUN! Come one, come all!

TO OLD HUDSONS-I bet we do know each other. My father drove a green 50 com. 6 convertible,(with less than 20,000 miles) I drove a dark blue 52 Hornet sedan and my brother drove a black 50 pacemaker sedan, from Iowa.

Yes, Mark Neal. Mother died in 77 and father in 93. In 65 The family drove 4 Hudson and and 15 people to Detroit. All gone now but me. Brothers still alive but no interest. Alot of water over the dam as they say. Havent been very active the last 20 years but, stayed a member tho. Things change. Larry

I'm really excited about the National this year. I just finished the final detail and repaired all of those "assembly" scratches and dents, added the final wood that goes inside and washed her down. Met with our tour quartermaster yesterday and rounded up all the auction items for the Historical Society auction and broke out my "garb" that I plan to wear for the Auction and possibly the dinner "Think Scottish Black Watch." (Not quite as bad as a "fat man in a tutu.")

Even been working out in the garden in some unsual 101 degree weather just to get a feel for the fun we are going to have. Bring it on!! I for one am ready to start my engine---that is the car engine?
