engine assembly question
I have had the whole big end rods and pistons of my 37T engine fitted and balanced but have not yet fitted the cam, lfters, and valves.is it possible to fit the cam while the crank and rods are still in place or do i have to dissasemble the big end and start again? not sure of the correct sequence of assembly so any advice gratefully recieved.cheers, skip

You should be able to install the cam, valves, and lifters at any time, just leave the timing gear till last or you'll have to turn the crank etc along with the cam to get the valves in.0

Be sure to start by positioning the crankshaft gear so its timing mark is near where it needs to be to match up with the mark(s) on the cam gear. Should be no problem installing the camshaft, then the lifters and timing gear (or put the timing gear on the camshaft without snugging down the bolts, then install the cam and gear assembly in the block, tighten the bolts and install the "locking wire.")0

excellent advice, thanks folks. Are there any uniquely hudson pitfalls and traps for the unwary with engine assembly?0

Don't forget the thrust washer before you put the cam in. You slide it down the cam shaft to the flange where the gear goes, then install the cam.0

Also the spring that goes in the middle of the cam and the thrust button that goes on the spring. Will but up against the timing cover.0

And when you install the valve lifter clamps, tighten just snug and give each one a good whack at right angles, to align them perfectly with the cams, and then tighten the clamp bolts securely. How are your cam followers? They need to be reground if they are in poor shape, or you can buy new ones from Dale Cooper.0

If that's your Ute in the picture, how about emailing me your name, address and truck SN so I can include it in the truck roster. The only other 37 registered is the one John Clarke just bought. There are a couple of coupes registered. Don't know whether they are Utes or coupes with the slide-out box. Will have to ring that out.
