Almost ready........in spite of fire.
I'm almost ready to start the beast. Had a fire that set me back a bit. Apparently a spider moved into my fuel line (installed 1 year ago) and plugged it up. When I blew it out, gas hit the drop light and things got very interesting. I was able to move the car and then put out the fire under the gas tank :woohoo: Now have a burnt hand and a nice new fire extinguisher in garage. Anyway, all's well that ends well, right?

Well, I guess so, but things like that can be a little "off-putting"
Engine looks really nice. I assume that's an aluminum head that you have removed paint from, but not polished. Did you media blast, or something else? I like the look of it. I was thinking of polishing mine, but it might be "too much"- and how do you keep aluminum from tarnishing, once you put a bright shine on it?0 -

Engine looks real nice! I like the fire extinguisher on the wall, too. Now that you have it mounted, you most likely will never need to use it. It's usually when you don't have one handy, that disaster strikes. Glad all is mostly well.
A couple of things I noticed:
1. No heat shields? Might want to use them, especially with headers.
2. If that is a Chinese coil, you might want to move it over to the firewall, or inner fender. Chinese coils tend to burn when mounted in the traditional "top-of-the-block" area.
3. I take it you are running an electric fuel pump? What's your solution for the wipers?
Mike-
Once polished, in order to keep it pretty and shiny, it just takes regular polishing, and keeping your fingers off of it!:ohmy:0 -
Tell us about the starter.. looks modern..:blink:0

I am thinking of making a single heat shield that will run under the intake and use the exhaust holes in the intake for mounting. The coil is a Mallory "Street Performance" designed to work with electronic ignitions, which I have. I didn't notice where it was made, I assume Mallory makes all their products in Ohio. I am running an electric fuel pump. Wipers are also electric (now). Regarding the starter, it's a MOPAR reduction gear and I ordered it with the Wilkap GM trans adapter. I have a post elsewhere about the adapter and will be updating it soon. It's a great starter and cranks the engine nicely.0 -
Now please tell us you're not using any more shop lights with incandescent bulbs. They're a recipe for disaster, as you noticed. Only fluorescents or LEDs ... please !0
