What motor did I buy?

I bought this engine listed as a 308 twin h power but wasn't a 308 because of the rib being non existent so what did I buy? Has small wheel base twin h setup, head doesn't say anything but one of the heater lines comes out of the top of the head and the water temp sender is more toward the front of the car as opposed to the rear. So what size engine did I buy?

  • From what you described, sounds like either a 48-50 262 or possibly a 232 from 1950. Both decent engines but if you wanted a 308, they were not in the 308 league. If you didn't pay a lot of money then it's not so bad.

    Obviously the oil pan flange gets wider at the rear of the block. Curious that the head doesn't say anything.They almost always have '232''262''500' or something cast into it. Aluminum or iron head?

    I forgot to mention it has a dual range hydro connected to it. It looks like cast iron. My 262 has a big 262 by the water outlet on the head but this doesn't. I'm not sure if my 262 has it but on the driver side if the block by the starter is what looks like a big drain plug.

    It must be at least a 262" because as far as Ive heard Hudson never drilled a 232 crank for a Hydro.... As mentioned earlier, 262 motors are very reliable and pretty snappy for their size.

    So please please tell me it cant be a jet twin motor. Please don't tell me that. I'm posting pictures soon
  • Other than being a lot smaller than the 308, the Jet 202 has an exhaust manifold that exits at the front of the motor and the fuel pump sits on the rear passenger side. (the bigger motors have the fuel pump at the front passenger side)
