Plaster Model

At the National, there was a plaster model at the auction that was touted as an original, and went for more than I would have guessed. It was my understanding that these were reproduced at some time in the 70's or 80's. How do you determine the difference between original and repop? I have one that was given to me in exchange for a favor, and was told it was original. I have it sitting on my desk and have no plans to sell it, but maybe it should be in a protective case?

i don't think the repros were made in the brougham/sedan configuration. that design was typical of the styling department.0

I was under the impression that the "plaster" reproductions were made of fiberglass or some sort of lightweight casting material, whereas a true "plaster" by Hudson would be quite heavy (at least in comparison).
No one has ever told me this, but I get the feeling that Hudson made a small number of reproductions of scale model styling "plasters", to give to various high muck-de-mucks in the company. For example, years ago I met the daughter of a former Hudson chief engineer, who showed me an obviously-vintage plaster of the 1954 Hudson (in the 2-door-one-side, 4-door-other-side configuration) that had been her father's. I just had a gut feeling that it was some sort of factory presentation model, and not the actual styling "plaster". Not that this made it any less valuable, of course. But that was just a theory I had, and I have no proof that I'm correct!0 -
What did the one sell for at the Nationals?0

I had a 1947 plaster model that was a repro. It was two door on one side, four door on the other. It came as raw plaster and the fellow I got it from had it
painted.Looked very nice. It's now in an auto museum north of Toledo,Ohio

If you flip mine over, it has finger marks from the plaster getting pressed into the mould. This seemed a little odd if it were an original piece, but the one in OKC was similar. I think the one at charity auction went for $400 or so.
