Hudson, Essex, Terraplane Club store. If you're not a member, you should be. Greatest sources of info and parts going!0

You can also contact John O'Halloran, the HET club librarian @ ABChetlibr@aol.com (drop the ABC). There may be some material that you will find useful at the online library @ http://hetclub.org/burr/lithomepage.htm , tho we are tad light on 1946-1947 material.

If you're in the Club you could check your national roster to see where the nearest '46-7 pickup owner's located. An owner in your vicinity might let you come over and photograph their truck and could be happy to answer your questions.
The alternative would be to find the registrar for Hudson trucks (I think that's Larry Cramer) and ask him if there are any truck owners located near you. The list of registries can be found on the Club's homepage at http://www.hetclub.org/ . Go to the drop-down menu at the top: HET CLUB / SERVICES / REGISTRY OWNERS.0 -
Thanks for the info but as you can see we are starting from scratch. Some type of assembly manual would be awsome. I have emailed John O'Halloran and not received a responce. We are new to hudson restorations but not new to restorations as a whole.
Any help is always appreciated.0 -
You should be able to get a lot of help from other pickup owners besides the club library, just bare in mind that many owners and perhaps even some dealerships that used the trucks had added accessories to them that were not put on at the factory. The factory released model would've been pretty stripped down like a real TRUCK. but because it was basically engineered from a sedan chassis and the body is very much the same it can accept most of the trim and ornamentation from the cars and many owners have put that trim on (just FYI). Hudson made roughly 2500 trucks in '46 and roughly another 2500 in '47 and a surprising number of them have survived. (at least 400)0

Alas!, there is no assembly manual. (Whaddya think...we people in the Hudson club are THAT organized? LOL!)
Best bet (to repeat myself) is to find someone near you with a '46-7 Hudson truck who is willing to let you crawl all over it, take photos, and ask a million questions. There are actually a good number of Hudson owners who are quite willing to let this happen.
There is a good deal of technical literature now on the internet. For example, here is a 1946 parts book on Gregg Maroney's website. You'll find that the '46 and '47 Hudsons were virtually identical. http://www.hudsonterraplane.com/tech/1946/1946GroupPartsBook.pdf You can probably find an original manual on Ebay, at a Hudson swap meet, or from one of the on-line literature sellers like autolit.com .
By the way, where are you located? Possibly one of our "regulars" here at the Forum who has a truck, lives near you. Or he / she might know of a truck owner who does live near you.0 -
Welcome Aboard. I'm Larry, the H.E.T. Truck registrar, and have 2 of them. 1 daily driver and 1 next in line behind the 40 coupe. See the 'Rose between 2 thorns' post.
Specifically, go to the club wemsite,
http://www.hetclub.org/
Go to the drop-down menu under 'Store' and drop to 'Club store online'
Need to be a member and have your ID for the next step, but you need to go to 'Manuals, car related' on the left side and scroll down to
#311 1942-47 Mechanical Procedure Manual 375 pages 8 1/2"W x 11"H $32
That's the manusl you need. Covers body, brakes, chassis, clutch, cooling, electrical, engine, fuel, transmission, rear axle, steering, suspension, etc.
Most of it refers to the cars, but the trucks are identical except for a 7 in longer frame, a box, and more leaves in the rear springs.
Alex has the 40 manual (essentially the same vehicle) online under HET club, resourses, online literature, but you'll need to carry your laptop around the garage and get it all greasy. Better to join the rest of us Hudnuts, which you can do from the main website.
Like the late Jim Cook used to say, just get started and it will teach ya.
I'm at HETcramerlp@roadrunner.com (drop the HET) and have lots of answers if you have questions to fit em.
I'd like your Name, etc and the Serial Number of your truck (front passenger door post) to add to the other 850 or so trucks in the registry. I can also tell ya where the nearest other trucks are.
Larry, aka Uncle Josh0
