I need to find a way to remove the pinion seal holder, forgot what it's labeled as in the shop manual. Manual shows a "J" tool(I'm fresh outa Kent-Moore tools) with reversed fingers to pull it. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
Kim

I have attached several pictures and drawings which provide alternatives to the KENT MOORE tool called out in the Hudson Mechanical proceedures manual. As you will note these suggestions cross a range of solutions. I have also provided a picture of the KENT MOORE Tool albeit a poor picture.

Also available to you are the following avenues to obtain information and tools. Auto Zones website shows how to remove the seal from a Toyota rear and this proceedure is the same as the HUDSON DANA axel method. You can also search for JEEP or DANA pinion seal replacement on the INTERNET and there is a wide range of sites which explain thier version of how to remove and replace this seal. GOOD LUCK

Thank you for the explanation and pics. I have a seal puller like the top pic, but can't see a way to make it work. I have What I call a "T" puller something like the middle pic, but I think it's too big. I'll try it. I'll let ya know how I make out.
    And thank you agsain,

Obviously you have a new seal to go in, and there is no way you can repair or refurbish the old seal, so there is nothing wrong with just drilling a hole in the old seal, driving in a punch or similar, and just levering it out.

I'm hopeing I'm not exposing how dumb I am here, but I'll try to explaing what I have. The diameter of the pinion opening is approxiately say 4 inches and diameter of the part that holding the is say 2 inches, The metal part that's 4 inches has to be removed to remove the seal and it's a press fit. Seal doesn't come from the front, the bigger oiece ahs to come out in order to remove the old seal. I can't damage the, what I'm calling the seal holder, or I won't be able to install the seal. I hope this bring me to a paositive conclusion on how to get this part out.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kim
