radial tires

I am going to put radials on my Jet, what would be a good size that is close to orginal? The size that is on it now is 670-15.

Barry,
The Diamondback radials (from Hudson Dave) that I have on my Jet are 185/80 R15
No rubbing at all, including when I have the fender skirts on.

The old ones were 205/75 R15 and rubbed in back during cornering and rubbed in front in tight parking lot turns.

Your Jet is already on oversize, as the originals were 640/15. I tried my Jet on radial 185/15, but took them off after 1000 miles as the ride was too noisy and harsh, and the profile was too low, reducing the overall ratio. Am currently wearing out the last of my 640/15s and will re-evaluate when they are done. I have never had handling, steering, or riding problems on cross plies.

Yes, the 670-15 translate to 205/75-15 but the radials have a smaller diameter. The 670-15s are around 28.5 inches tall, while the 205/75-15 are around 27.1, although it does vary a little by brand.

Some of the bias ply websites advertise all the dimensions of their tires. Make sure you will be happy with the difference in size of the radials, and as mentioned on a previous post, make sure the walls will not rub against the car. You could ask a local tire shop to install a used tire on your rim just to fit it to the car and make sure there is plenty of clearance.

You can google tire size calculators for radial tires and see the difference between two sizes.

I am worried about the width, I don't have much clarence between the tire and the fender skirts. Are the 75's much wider than the 670's??

The 205/75 R15's that came with my 53 Jet rubbed front and back. The 185/80 R15's do not rub at all.

Barry - I think the cross section of the 75's would be very similar to the bias ply 670's you are running. You of course understand that the 670 x 15's are quite oversize for the Super Jet which came out of the factory with 640 x 15's. I would think that a radial 195-75 R15 would be more the correct size for your car.
