stepdown king-pin diameter

One of lifes minor mysteries.

From an era when car components tended to be dimensioned to the 1/16", a stepdown king-pin has a diameter of .940". Not .9375" for 15/16" or maybe .953125" for 31/64", but .940". And while stepdowns do contain a few metric components, this is not one of them .940" = 23.876mm

Any theories as to how this slightly odd for the time dimension would have been arrived at? Is it likely to be something to do with the king-pin hardening process?

The OD of the king-pin bushes reverts to typical practise, 1.375" top and 1.125" bottom.

    No, no, no - not "dead bodies!!!" Jeeeze - Fellow name of Mike Smith in Auburn, ME, called me yesterday. He has the following Hudson bodies for sale:

    2 - 1934 Coaches;

    1 - 1934 Sedan body, on frame;

    1 - 1935 Sedan body only;

    Has some odds and ends like a couple hoods, what may be a 1933 grille.

    Offering the whole lot for $1000.

    I did mess up and forgot to ask the best time to call him - probably after 5pm would be best.

    His number: (207) 786-4795.

    That's all I have. Hope somebody can save these.

    Hudsonly,
